Hey Springbok,

I haven't used an 8 series and you may got some good info from Mav and Startzarbut nothing I have read a of the 8 series this year has been very good. There seems to be an issue with the firmware and humminbird is having troubles sorting it out.

There is another forum that has at least 20 posts regarding the issues people are having with their 8 series birds. There doesn't seem to be any issues with the 9 or 11 series though that I have read about.

I will send you a pm with the details.

I have an 858c HD XD and haven't had any issues with it. Here is a link with lots of info on fish finders. Hope it helps. Jon

I have sold a bunch of 859's this year with no issues. Humminbird is also coming out with a new model slightly smaller that will have a lower price point.
