Anyone do aluminum welding ?

Post by Bain »

Looking to get an aluminum boat fixed

How much do you think it would cost to get these cracks in aluminum fixed ?

Some of the cracks had been previously fixed with some aluminum brazing rods

Call "Fred Welding" out in Wendover.
Nothing he can't weld. Very affordable, quick service.

Do you think it's worth getting it welded? Does this look like a couple hundred dollars to fix?

Agree with FishinMission. That's the great thing about digital pics. They should be able to give you a ball park estimate, regardless of where you go, before driving out with your boat.

Can't imagine it'll be much more than a couple hundred dollars to repair.

Not sure how big of a weld that you need, but if you look at the picture you will see a patch that was welded on the left side of my center keel. I hit a pointed rock and ripped a hole about 15" long. They welded that patch on the outside and fixed up the inside so it wouldn't be a hazard. They did this for me as an emergency on a Friday afternoon before a long weekend. They charged me about $60.00 which was a steal.

I got this done at Ritchies on Power Rd. (listed above) The thing about welding an aluminum boat is that they have to be careful when it is close to a riveted area. There is some kind of rubber sealant around the rivets and the heat would probably melt that.

That's a lt of welding looks like patching was already tried by someone without skill.

You may find what you would spend on welding plus the scrap value would put you not too far from a better boat.
I love golf it keeps thousands of unworthy off the water
