Carpet replacement

Post by Two-Feather »

Hello everyone

I'm looking for a recommendation for someone that can replace some carpet and maybe some plywood in my boat.
Are there any decent shops in the area?

Thanks

It really isn't a tough job. Just requires some time and elbow grease. You'd be surprised at the outcome once you're all done. I ended up building a casting deck, and carpeted it, plus a few other things in my boat. Didn't come out to shabby. I tell you this though, if I were to do it all over again, (probably will), I'm going the route of vinyl spray on flooring. Easy clean, and looks sharp.

I'm hoping to do this in the near future as well, so I've been looking into the supplies. I don't know where you're located, but if you're in the ottawa area, here's what i've found.

I'm pretty sure I'm going to go with a vinyl deck flooring over regular 1/2" plywood. From what it seems, you can get Duncan Dek-Master at Home Depot on special order (http://www.homedepot.ca/know-how/buying-guides/ducan) or similar stuff at Rona or Lowes.

If you're leaving any exposed wood, coat it with marine spar varnish - cheapest place i've found for this is Armor Coat brand at Canadian Tire.

For screws, reuse the old ones if you can, but if you need more, you can get stainless steel tapping screws in oval or countersink by the box at Ottawa Fastener Supply by the box for a pretty good price.

If you are doing any redesign, like building a casting deck, you can get aluminum extrusions like angle iron from Princess Auto (http://www.princessauto.com/en/b/worksh ... pp=45&No=0) - they've got git on sale right now for 30% off.

You'll probably need some adhesives at some point - they have a pretty good selection at The Chandlery (http://www.thechandleryonline.com/).

Good luck, and let me know how it goes.
