Merc outboard squealing noise

Post by MikeW »

My 2008 50 hp 2 stroke Merc started making an intermittent noise similar to a squealing fan belt. It isn't real loud, but it's noticeable. The noise almost seems to come from around the carbs some place. Anyone have an idea what it could be ?

Not sure about that model, but an "intermittent squeeling" on my Merc means it's starving for oil!!!!!

Does it sound electronic? My 40hp has an overheat alarm that sounded like a high-pitched squeal. It was just a little buzzer thingy. It was intermittent as the intake of the motor was clogged.

It's definitely not the overheat or oil alarms.
