motor and gear oil

Post by loophole »

I have a 1999 Merc 50 that I'm very happy with. I do the standard maintenance every year. This summer, for a variety of reasons, I've hardly used the boat at all. If the motor oil has 4 hours running time this season I'd be surprised. Should I replace the gear oil and motor oil anyway or would that be a waste of perfectly good gear oil and motor oil?

I personally would replace the gear oil just in case there was any water infiltration, cheap peace of mind.

As for the motor oil I’d probably leave it.

My dad, a dairy farmer, always said oil and grease are cheaper than metal.
