Boat seat hinges

Post by Corvus Lacus »

A couple of the hinges on my folding boat seats have buckled...they just don't stand up to 230 lbs of tired fisherman leaning back for a snooze.

My boat's a Lund, but they are the standard folding (no-pinch hinges) fishing seats that I see on a lot of other brands too. The hinges are fabricated from aluminum (that's the problem). A few years back, I remember seeing (somewhere on the internet) some after-market replacement hinges that were made from stainless steel...obviously I wasn't the first one with this issue. I also remember seeing after-market hinges that were ratcheting...adjustable for a number of different reclining angles (just like in a car). I now can't seem to locate anything but the standard aluminum ones. The seats themselves are in great shape, so I'm not quite ready to throw out the baby with the bathwater.

Any suggestions or solutions ?

Could because of coronavirus - most manufacturing companies in italy are closed down - they are slowing starting to open up so i'd give it a while.

No luck there either.

I did find some on-line from Wise at BoatSeats.com. Not SS but "XTR" aluminum, made for their "heavy duty" seats. Unfortunately, they don't ship to Canada, so I had them delivered to a buddy in PA, and he will mail to me. I'll let you know how they work out.

These are the ones I ordered. Supposedly more robust than the standard hinges. They arrived in PA today...I should have them in a couple of days.
