honda 20 hp issue

hi all.

looking to get a tinny. used

but owner sayd is 20 hp honda as an issue says it runs fine but just 1/2 speed. and says its the stator.

i am ok spending a bit to get it repair. but those motor are expensive

anyone got that issue with this motor or similar ?

I talked to my marine mechanic, he suggested you can test the stator before you buy. Lots of videos on YouTube… multimeter and a couple wires to test. Then you would know if the stator was the issue or something else.

Yea I saw some of those too. A basic resistance check on the three coils will show if one of the coils is bad, in this case the high speed coil.
