Lawrence Euteneier (aka. Karma) has started a wonderful initiative to explore the many options for people with visual disabilities to participate in the great sport of angling. I have a great respect and admiration for Lawrence and the work he has done, and he has without a doubt proven that people with disabilities can have just as much fun Angling as everyone else.
Thanks Lawrence for being such an ambassador to the sport of fishing. Your excitement, enthusiasm, and pursuit for excellent is to be commended.

What a truly remarkable story! The electronics on this boat and the on-going mods are amazing!
So good in fact that perhaps alot of us without sight impairments should look into getting them!!!!
I could name a few that would benefit from a talking fish-finder!
The repair shops will hate it though!
But honestly this is an amazing story! Very inspiring!

This is wonderful!!! Very inspiring, Great work!!!!!!
I think fishing is the best thing in the world for people with disabilities, it's just so much fun you can almost forget you are even disabled, even if it is only for a few hours a week.
As technology gets better and better hopefully more will be done for people with disabilities, because it's hard life to lead when you can't see or have other health problems that leave you crippled.

I can imagine that fairly quickly they will be able to know which type of fish is on the line with almost 100% certainty. Fishing must be a blast for them!

I dropped by the Ottawa show today, too, and met Lawrence.
All I can say is -- Amazing!!
Lots of people were coming up, saying they saw him on the morning news.

2009 was an incredible year. Numerous new talking electronics were sea-trialed, 14 fishing excursions involving 34 youth and adults with vision loss and 74 recently disabled vets were organized, and key-note presentations were given at fishing tournaments involving over 546 fishers with vision loss.
Outreach activities also included 14 presentations and exhibits at six outdoor events for a total of 182 hours. Feature articles in 15 fishing journals and mainstream papers, and over 45 minutes of TV and radio time, all contributed to get the message out about the importance of ensuring the sport of fishing is open to the over 11 million Americans and Canadians with vision loss.
A big thanks to my sponsors for their tremendous support and all those who volunteered their time and expertise. I very much look forward to the opportunity to work with all of you in 2010 as the Blind Fishing Boat initiative reaches out to even greater numbers of committed and potential fishers with vision loss and their families and friends.
