Just bought my first firearm....Remington 870 Express trio Synthetic
I have never owned a shotgun or any other firearm for that matter and I am wondering what is the best way to work it in? Or do you even have to do that? Do I just start shooting? Should I clean and oil it before I shoot? Any guidance on this would be great!
Thanks
J
Not sure how or what....
They had 2 left at Norris' bait and tackle in Westport, but I was heading up to Cobden this weekend to do some bow hunting and they had one at Perkins in Pembroke, $659, $59 more then LeBaron, but LeBaron never actually got them in!! LOL
So there is no real "work in time" or anything of the sort, like a new motor?
Might sound dumb I know nothing about firearms, have been hunting for only 2 years and always with a bow. Have owned many air guns!!!

The 870 is ready to use right out of the box.
Buy a bore snake for a 12-gauge and some quality solvent from a gun shop. Hoppes 9 is very good.
2-3 passes is all it takes to clean it.
I don't clean mine after every use, I prefer to do that every 2-3 weeks and only if the barrel is really dirty.
Light oil only on moving parts. NEVER put oil in the barrel!!!
It'll cause build up. Anyone who tells you to oil inside a barrel is nuts!
A thin coat on the exterior to prevent rust when you put it away or if you've been out in the rain.
Ask ANY gunsmith....

Take it apart and make sure all the packing grease is removed.. bolt, barrel etc. This will greatly improve the accuracy for it's first shoot. Make sure to clean after every use..!! www.shotgunworld.com plenty of good info there for a newbie.
