Prices of baits
Prices of baits
I don't know about where you guys are but, around the price of plastics have gone through the roof. Yes I know the dollars bad and I do take that into consideration. Our local tackle shop has Zoom finesse worms for $9 a bag and SK rage craws for over $10. Like cmon here, those prices are getting to high. At those price points it may be cheaper to order from the states.

Re: Prices of baits
After conversion, taxes, customs and shipping, considering we have a bad dollar as you mentioned, ordering from the States won't be any better.
We bought a considerable amount of Zoom horny toads from Paddletales at a very fair price.
I'm happy Ed brought more Zoom in, as they were hard to source locally.

Re: Prices of baits
You might be able to order them for cheaper online, even with the shipping, Canadian dollar and duty. But at the end of the day, you might only save a dollar a bag. For that price difference, it's worth thinking about the merits of supporting local business.
Re: Prices of baits
There is no doubt that the dollar is effecting everyone in some way or fashion. That being said, supporting your own retailers, who are also feeling the pinch seems more of a sound approach than taking your business outside of our country which will not assist the exchange rate.

Re: Prices of baits
Drake: For the record, we have Zoom at Paddletales for under $6.00 and Strike King Rage Toads for $6.49. The Zoom was brought in this year with the higher exchange. Having said that, as a store, I find I must shop around for pricing, just like you do. Your local store is probably more likely being charged a high price than gouging. I agree with PMac too. The local stores must be supported as long as they are putting in the effort.
I wish you were closer but we do ship.

Ed,
I seriously need to get to your store in April.
Just waiting for Mav to offer up a ride.
On that note.
My fiance order some baby boy clothes on-line from the US.
A $30 order was like $90 after exchange, shipping, duties etc.
Nice clothes but seriously....

Re: Prices of baits
I've never really paid attention to price fluctuations in plastics. I just look at what I am buying and make sure I am comfortable paying that much for what I am getting so I guess I should be more attentive.

Re: Prices of baits
Another thing to consider. With the use of live bait becoming less prevalent now as more states and provinces lean towards total prohibition, there is only one way the prices are going to go. It's all about supply and demand and plastic manufacturers are going to take full advantage of it. Plus, with the push towards more environmentally friendly plastics, manufacturers will have to revamp their operations and formulas to comply, which will lead to higher operating costs which will be passed on to the consumers.
While the low Canadian dollar surely affects prices as well, there are numerous smaller Canadian companies that produce quality plastics and these companies should be supported as much as possible too.
Cheers
