Just another crappie day
Just another crappie day
The weather was looking good today, the plan was to look for some slabs with my bud. We tried our first creek and came up empty, moved to another and we found the goldmine, caught 2 slabs within the first 2 casts! I knew it was going to be a good day. I'm used to waiting for the evening bite to hook into some slabs but today was different, they were ON with the cloud cover, non stop action from 1-3 we released over 40 crappie. I release most of my fish but i wanted to keep a few good lookin eaters for dinner tonight

Re: Just another crappie day
does anyone mind sharing what sort of set up they use for crappie? im new to crappie fishing so I tried the simple worm hook and sinker combo but that just lead me to bullhead
Re: Just another crappie day
Some real nice fish. Unfortunately, my attempts (including today) to catch crappie have all been, well.. crappy.
It usually goes like this: A few casts, accidently hook a pike and then nothing for two hours. Changing the set up from small spoons to small plastics (dark and light) and jig heads but nothing. Maybe it's my location. I really haven't found what I would call promising waters fishing from shore. Clearly I'm in the wrong spot with the wrong lures.
But will try again soon. Maybe the warmer water which is coming soon will help.

Re: Just another crappie day
Hi guys. My son has a PD day tomorrow and he wants to go fishing. Don't know much about crappies so what kind of locations and structures should i be looking at this time of year? I see from other posts that creeks could be good, right? Any advice welcomec especially since him and I can rarely find the time to go fishing together. Thanks
