Last year we hit Montreal for Sturgeon (http://www.fish-hawk.net/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=48403) but the bite was slow so we were been offered a make up session. So we hit the waters of the Larry once again yesterday night.
The fishing was also slow but the fishing we did have was intense much to the chagrin of our guide who swore they were doing better all the previous week.
The rigging was similar to last year except the guide had some rods on circle hooks this year. Since I was used to working with I volunteered to use them.
I started off the day by landing this 50 incher that fought like a sun of a gun. Drawing drag at will and with seeming endless amount of energy reserves.
At the start it felt like I had hooked into a cable and the bottom of the river. He would not give and he would not move.
Later than evening we hit into a double header. One buddy of mine reeled and released a smaller fish to allow the my other buddy to bring in his larger fish. My buddy got onto his first large Sturgeon and could not believe the power it had. Just as he got it up to the top of the water it would turn and go straight down and all he could do was hold the rod and let it peel the drag out.
My other buddy caught another smallone. We named this guy Michael Jackson.
(it was funnier after eight hours on the boat)
We also landed incidental catches of walleye, a nice catfish and a nice sized eel.
In the end a good night was had by all.

Pretty cool trip and a couple nice fish for the ya's too!
Re: Second Annual Sturgeon fishing Trip to Montreal
That is pretty cool and great pics.
There is no open season here in Ontario anymore but I did manage one the other day while pre fishing for an upcoming tournament. Who would have thought they would hit a drop shot? LOL.
It was an interesting fight on 8lb test I will tell you that much...
Thanks for sharing.

wow! That must have been fun :0 How long did it take you to realize it was not a bass? Was this on the Ottawa?lape0019 wrote: It was an interesting fight on 8lb test I will tell you that much...
Re: Second Annual Sturgeon fishing Trip to Montreal
It took all of .02 seconds to realize it wasn't a bass.
I thought I was hung up on bottom and then the head shook and the drag started to peel. Thought it might be a Laker at first. And no, this was on Muskrat lake. I didn't even know they were in there.
