There is a Cabela's out in Nanaimo, BC. Beauty of store and rivals a handful of the Bass Pro that I have been to. Easy comparison is the Bass Pro in Vaughn Mills. Do away with some of the clothing and put in some more racks for firearms though.

I was at the one in Barrie a few times excellent place to get hunting supplies but not too good in the fishing department.

Typically, I find most US fishing, hunting and archery outfitter have a much larger and diverse inventory as compared to Canadian retail/suppliers. Cabela's Canada is no exception. There is a remarkable difference in products availability between the two: some of the items sold In the US are simply non-existent in Canada.
I also found an extreme difference in pricing in Canadian stores, at times 100% more than their US counterparts for the exact same item; delivery charges are also overpriced in Canada.
Even with US$ exchange allowance in CDN$ , I still find the US purchase a better deal, at least most of the times.

I live about 15km from Kanata's new Cabela's store opening this September 22nd and will most surely take the opportunity to visit, once the madness is gone, for a curious look; they might actually surprise me and offer the rare jewel I seek, for a "bargain cave" price.
Fishing is a privilege ... not a right, so don't waste it!

I don't disagree that the US selection is superior however once you factor in the exchange and brokerage the prices are pretty close for most items. The real pain is that for guns and ammo ordering from the US isn't an option. I find that if you are patience and know your price points you can get a good deal from Cabelas they have sales quite often. They beat BPS in my books because they actually have a .ca website and distribute out of Canada so no delays at the boarder, brokerage fees or mini bar like exchange rates from the credit card company. Iam down in Kingston but will make the trip up to Ottawa at some point after opening to check it out.

I got an invite for the V.I.P customer appreciation event for Sept 21 the day before the official grand opening.
I wonder how many of them they have sent out.
