Best reel for lures other than baitcasting

Just what the title says....anything and everything related to Rods, Reels, Terminal Tackle, Plastics, what others are using, what works, what doesn't work, and anything else you want to talk about regarding equipment.

When using a spinning reel, it is a Stradic CI4 and a CI4+.

They are light, dependable and smooth to use. If you need something built a little stronger, look at the Stradic FK. Now, there are better reels within Shimanos lineup, I just chose the Stradic because of its price range.

with that said, your statement is quite vague. What types of lures are you talking about? how much do they weigh? How often will the reels be used and what species are you targeting?

For bass, I will pick up a baitcaster before I touch a spinning reel. they just offer more control on where your casts are going. If I am going for pan fish, I'' be using a spinning reel exclusively.

Not sure what price range he's looking at, but that
Stradic is more than double the Pfleugers I mentioned.
I agree the Shimano upper levels are great reels, but
sometimes a person's budget doesn't warrant the cost. 8)

I get what you're saying Cyber but he asked for the "best" and didn't provide much info as to what he is looking for. From my standpoint, I picked an "average priced reel". I realize it is expensive to most and people consider this price range high end but if you consider price alone within the Shimano lineup, the Stradic is still well below their top tier model and lower than the mid price point between their whole lineup. If the OP is looking for a less expensive reel, my suggestion would still be Shimano (personal preference) and would be to look at the Sahara line and above.

I have used a President in the past and still have it but it has given me more problems than I care to share. The Supreme is a really nice reel though. I bought one for my father a few years back and it has stood up to quite a bit of abuse and still works flawlessly.

thanks for the replies, and my price range is really low so I don't think that shimano reels will be in the price range.

Pfleuger presidents are probably the best spinning reels for the money based on what I've read. I finally picked one up this year for my new dropshot set up and I'm upset with myself for waiting so long to get one! Very good reel for $70 or so.
