Pre-Bass Fishing!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Pre-Bass Fishing!

Post by TheMaverick »

Pre-Bass fishing…for crappie of course, cause Bass ain’t open yet, made ya look!

Everything originated from a group text invite, as this seems to be a common re-occurrence.
RiverMonster, aka “The B.B.C. whisperer”, and the mastermind behind all this, invited us to his cottage for what was christened as #CrappieBonanza.

A few of us headed down Friday in hopes of getting a head start on them hubcaps.
As the Ranger gradually wet her haul, it slid off ever so smoothly.

Unfortunately, to what was a peaceful delight, came a loud racket.
ShawnD, aka “Broke Back Trailer” busted a bearing on his trailer just as he arrived.
In good spirits, we weren’t gonna let that misshap damper our weekend.

That being said, RiverMonster, ShawnD, Biggs and myself, headed off to a first spot, then a second, a turd, and so on.
The crappie bite was slow, and only picked up at a day’s end, water temps were roughly between 52 and 55.
We called it a day, gathered up what we had caught, fired up the BBQ, craked a few cold ones.
Day one was in the books.

Come crack of dawn, what I though was a bear jumping my bed, was only WhoThatGuy, aka “Thirst Quencher”, coming to wake me up.
Dude was ready for action, the thirst was real for that B.B.C (Big Black Crappie).
He made sure to hype everyone up, as day two was about to start.

With the cold front moving in, the bite was somewhat slow again, and really picked up on this one spot where water temps reached 57-58.
With a good haul, we decided to head back for the piece of resistance, Le Fish Fry!

All in all, that was a brief synopsis of what was an amazing weekend.
This is what it’s all about, this is the comradery fishing brings, and should be brought on for generations to come.
Again, big ups to the B.B.C Whisperer for setting this up, greatly appreciated!

Looks like GongShow fishing, my kind of fishing shamrocks & shenanigans! Did you catch any Crappie on the crank bait? Always fun open water tossing for the Craps!
Good stuff.

It was painful for us to watch Mav tying to catch crappie at first, you could see the frustration building. But once he figured it out, he became the PAN SLAYER.

I came in guns blazing ready to set the hook on some tiny jaws! 8-)
A gentle sweeping motion is all that was needed, lesson learned.

It seriously was!

For everyone wondering, I got my boat back home now and yes you should check your bearings for play even if it's a new boat!
I've received quite a few messages about this. If your bearings use grease, be sure to keep them filled, mine are Oil baths and don't technically require maintenance but lesson learned... I should have jacked my wheels and looked for side to side play.

Note that some trailers do have oil bath that can be maintained, they have a semi clear case that can be drained and refilled.

That's an awesome weekend.

I'll take a weekend of crappie and mean-azz bluegills over a weekend of snot rockets every day of the week.
If you're gonna be stupid, you'd better be tough.
