reports of open water

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

reports of open water

Post by levitch »

Hey all,

I don't know if this type of thing has been done before on here...or if people are interested in doing such a thing...but I thought it would be helpful to all of us if we could report seeing open water (ie. the ice is gone) as we transition into spring.
Then eager folks who want to get out onto the open water have some ideas about where to go..

I'll go first:

I noticed that the public launch spot on the Muskrat River (beside Hwy 17 north of Cobden) is open and the river is free of ice. I dont know how far it is open.. but I saw guys launching boats on the weekend...so there must be at least SOME open water further down as well.

St Lawrence river from Cornwall and east to the Quebec border has many wide open areas yesterday.

Open water at Morrisburg but the dock from just down river is tied up inside the dock at the launch rendering the launch unusable.

Raisin River Marine posted not too long ago that they no longer allow day passes, only season passes.

Hi all ,

Does anybody know if Muskrat lake has open water yet ? Cobden boat launch to be exact ...

Been to St. Lawrence river early this week - Boat launches open @ Cardinal & Morrisburg , but still had some ice at the launch closer to Cornwall dam.
Long Sault Parkway also still closed.

Cheers.

Sorry cannot help you with Muskrat lake, but you mentioned Morrisburg being open... did you notice if there were still large cement blocks in front of the boat launch blocking access? The blocks were there last week and I heard they were not being moved until April 9th.

Thanks

Hi ,

Yeah sorry , The blocks were still blocking the ramp in Morrisburg , but the one in Cardinal looked like it was accessible.
The launch off Vincent Massey (Trillium Drive) just past Long Sault will be ice free I'm sure by next week too ...
