Re: Burbon+ice and Inconnu on Great Slave lake
Very cool to learn more about those hard fighting Coney fish. Great report Scuro. Have you warmed up yet? Lol. W. Funny you should mention that. I've come back from two weeks of fishing in northern Quebec. The last week was blistering hot..hotter then down south and I can see why there are forest f...

Burbon+ice and Inconnu on Great Slave lake
https://farm2.staticflickr.com/1753/41868508924_285c6c4220_o.jpg I landed in Yellowknife May 25, it was about 4 degrees Celsius and I had hours to wait for the float so I shared the picture of the flight over Great Slave lake with the guys who fished it with me last fall. Jokes were made about ice ...

Re: CARP in the Rideau
Funny you should say troll, on a yak I have trolled small gold or yellow lures and gotten hits. Never caught one that way. In the early spring they will seek warmth so shallower water away from any currents...especially mid day. They are skitterish shallow. They tend not to travel great distances so...

Re: Pike cut offs
You can buy metal leaders or buy/ make your own fluro leaders.
The bigger the pike the stronger the fluro should be...but even for smaller pike I wouldn't start at anything less than 80 pounds. You still my occasionally get a cut off but it will be a rare event.

Talston Bay Big Pike Lodge report
https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4338/37006538632_951ee3919f_k.jpg This was a lodge I had looked at for many years but balked at going to because of the price. Come retirement it was now or never. So off I went solo and as luck would have it the 5 other guys there were a great group of guys. Where is...

Re: I'm a carp newbie
Could be the spawn...you'll catch nothing then. Simplest rig to catch carp with is called a bolt rig. The carp literally catches itself.

With the newer spincasting reels the incredibly smooth and powerful drag is the main selling point.RJ wrote:scuro wrote: Spinning is almost a necessity in the salt basically due to the need for line capacity, nothing more.

Re: Spinning vs casting
Each has it's purpose and its place. For throwing anything over 1/4 oz, I would be looking at a casting combo. That is the local prejudice, as is fly fishing is much better than "gear" fishing out in BC. I'll tell you one thing, you will certainly look out of place in bass tourni with spi...

Little idea that you did half this stuff. Stuck in a bubble! Great going still Chris. Bring on 3. Great stuff Chris. Thanks for sharing. Cuba is one of my most favorite places in the world. I'm nowhere near as ambitious as you on out trips though! RJ Compliments from two fishermen I admire. ....
