Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season

Also, forgot to post about ice thickness. Ice is definitely still safe, the quality varied somewhat from spot to spot; some areas had almost all white and very little black, some had mostly black and very little white. About 14 inches either way, maybe a tiny bit less at our spot further out, which ...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season

Was out yesterday from about 2:00 to 8:30 pm. We fished about 250 meters out for a while in 9-10 feet with no luck except for a couple of stupid little perch, so we moved further and set up in about 13 fow. The bite was not exactly hot, no walleye, but a few pretty aggressive little saugers here and...

Re: Crappie Ice Fishing?

It's true, they aren't a great size anymore. A couple years ago I feel like the average size was a bit higher, still not great but we'd always catch a couple of 11-12 inchers. I've only been to Joe's once this winter since I find it has too many folks fishing it and I prefer quieter days on the ice,...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season

I know. As someone who is strictly a walk-out-with-the-sled-and-never-drive-on-the-ice angler, the only thing I'm worried about is the ice thawing quicker and the season ending sooner, but I seriously feel for everybody who can't get their shack out. It really does suck. Hopefully next winter will b...

Re: Petrie Island Sunday

The bait that you absolutely NEED to use when you're fishing at Petrie Island this year is a Jigging Rap. I don't know why but it has been the only thing that really works for the walleye and perch. (The pike also like it if you're fishing on a hump or in other shallower water.) So far I've used the...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season

I haven't been out to shirley's but was out on Petrie last night which also had had plenty of slush, but there's none left now. I'm sure it's the same on shirley's bay. After a couple days of low -20s and even -30 that slush didn't stand a chance.

Re: Crappie Ice Fishing?

The Crappie bay at Petrie Island can be good, personally I find the fish aren't a great average size there... I have a couple pretty secret crappie lakes that I can't give any information on, but a pretty well known lake that I always have decent luck at is Joe's Lake in Lanark county off of French ...

Constant Lake boat launch

Hi all, Does anyone know about the private launch on Constant Lake in Dacre? I'm talking about the launch that's just off of Fiebig road on the south side of the middle portion of the lake. I heard that the guy charges people $10 to launch their boats in the summer and he has some parking, but does ...

Re: NEW 4-Person Ice Fishing Hut $75!!!

It's advertised as a 4 person but it's really a 2 person hut at best. I've seen one before. They look alright.

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season

My dad drove by the Bay today and said he saw two permanent shacks out there. I was guessing it would be getting nearly thick enough by now. Not sure if they got pulled out by ATVs, but probably not by truck. Still haven't been on the bay myself, been busy and fishing occasionally in lanark.

Re: Collapsible Smitty Sled for Sale

Just so guys know, the Salvation Army has a bunch of skis for sale for $15. With a 2x4, some screws, a couple bolts, and a length of rope you can put this together pretty easily. Lots of YouTube videos on it. I just picked up a pair and removed the bindings. Going to make it later in the week Which...

Drying an Insulated Pop-up

Hi everybody, I have a bit of a dilemma with my new Eskimo Outbreak 450i. My basement just had a minor sewage flood while the shack was lying on the floor outside of its bag. Sine I would normally just fold out the sides a little bit and set a fan in front to dry it since my basement isn't big enoug...
