Re: Ice in the area
Constance Lake is definitely safe. I haven't been to Constance at all since I don't have a lot of confidence in it any more, but I'd bet there's around 8 or more inches on the lake. I was out on Joes Lake yesterday and and we had about about 4-5 inches of cloudy ice and another 4-5 inches of clear i...

Re: Ice Fishing Tips & Tricks
I have some slightly more obvious ones to add, but I'll say them nonetheless. Take advantage of free online mapping if you don't have have Navionics or Lakemaster or stuff like that. I use gpsnauticalcharts.com and the Navionics online Chart Viewer. A lot of smaller lakes aren't covered, but if you ...

Re: Brittania Bait
Serge has been great for us over the past couple years. I heard that he sold his rights to harvest minnows a little while ago to another guy, but I'm glad he's still selling some himself. We always pick some up on our way out west before each trip out on the ice.

We'll probably check it out sometime over the Christmas holidays, got the go-ahead from the "matriarch" to fish all we want so long as we stay home from Christmas eve to boxing day.... I'll post an update at the end of the the month or 1st week of Jan.
Looking forward to getting out!

That is an excellent idea. I couldn't agree more.Corvus Lacus wrote: ↑Sat Nov 19, 2022 8:22 am I would suggest retirement homes...the residents often appreciate older reading material.
Also, if the books are in good shape, your local library most likely accepts donations.

Re: Old fishing magazines and books
I'm 15 and I've been wanting to get my hands on some old fishing magazines for a while. If anyone wants to pass some on to the next generation of fisherman, I know some other young fisherman who probably love to see some, and I'm sure my dad would get a kick out of them too!

Re: Eager for ice
Yeah I'm excited for the tungsten dinner bells too, I only got one micro-sized one to be able to drop down faster on Crappie in deeper water, but I'll probably order some more. I was lucky with my hut, though. I got it off Kijiji completely unused for $400. Otherwise it wouldn't have been in my pric...

Re: Eager for ice
I can't wait for ice either, and though I don't wanna be the one to say it, we may have to wait another few weeks. On the lighter note of new gear, I've got sooo many things I'm excited to try. Got myself my first pop-up shack, the Eskimo Outbreak 450i (predecessor to the XD version, basically the s...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2023 Ice season
The bay will definitely be open... I believe that some of the smaller lakes retained a thin layer of ice, but the forecast isn't looking great. The small likes might make a tiny bit of ice, but I doubt the bay will be frozen for a few weeks. I know this is killing the rest of you as much as it's kil...

Re: speckled ideas
Goin to Peterwhite Lake today, hopefully the hike will be doable. Thanks for the info.
I was talking about the green lake off french line road, maybe I'm missing a safe way to get to the lake, but no, I do not have 4wd unfortunately, and the quad bike trail is pretty rough to walk.

Re: speckled ideas
@fisherman89 How's the hike along the powerline to peterwhite in terms of flatness? Got out to green lake for the first time this winter and the hike was a tough one, path had lots of rocks and was very hilly. I'd love to know if it's a bit better than green lake.
