Re: Best Lures for Smallmouth Bass in Ontario Lakes?

Wacky rig, Texas rigged senkos. Both fish slower than you think. Ned rig works great. I find Ned works better with a rocky bottom. Drop shotting works good when you find em. Top water early morning or when the suns going down. When the water is calm.

Re: Has their been a Ottawa area fish hawk meet up?

When fish-hawk.net started many moons ago there were regular "meet-ups" including weekend fishing trips, back when the site was busier and lot more people posted, before other social media become popular. I have been dealing with some family issues since last September, so Fish-Hawk thing...

Re: Daiwa CND custom ML eyelets

Oh man the horrors of learning that knot last year. I’ll give it a go. How hard is it to replace eyelets? Appreciate the help. It’s not hard to replace the tip, the hard part is ordering it ( you have to identify brand, model, colour and insert type) and have it delivered to you( from US) if you wa...

Re: Has their been a Ottawa area fish hawk meet up?

I know that some of the site admins (Jim Wilson for example) have tried to organize some stuff at Shirley's bay during the ice season, but I'm not sure if anything ever ended up happening. I'd love it if there was ever a Fish-Hawk event but maybe send a PM to Jim W if you want more info Seems like ...

Has their been a Ottawa area fish hawk meet up?

I’m seeing a lot of guys are from the Ottawa area since joining this forum a year ago. I’ve had lots of good info come from here. Has there ever been a meet up?

Cheers

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question

haha I'd be down, man. I'll check out that combo and see if I can make room in my already irresponsible fishing budget for it lol. I think my nervous system could use the calming zen of fly fishing once I graduate in a month. Gonna need a lot of fishing days to relax. Ayyy!! That’s exciting. Congra...

Yeah I’d like to think I got it down to a science now. That’s how I felt doing the FG. It’s so tough.

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question

Glad to hear it. Fly fishing is definitely on my list for new skills this year... Just trying to figure out where to get the best deal on a starter set-up. Yeah was on my bucket list for a year. My tackle shop back home had a 20% off open house so finally closed in on one. Bought an echo base kit. ...

John Zach wrote: Mon May 26, 2025 8:34 am Oh the horrors indeed. The Alberto knot is great but I found that even after a year of using it I’d still mess it up and have to redo it most times I tied it. Eventually I just gave up and started using a double-uni.
Interesting. I find the Alberto knot way easier.

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question

For Crappie you could maybe try Green's Creek. I'm not sure what the wading scene is like there, but I know that you can get crappies in there and it's a tributary of the Ottawa river. Ended up in the britianna area. Could wade a bit. Still fast current. Just needed an excuse to practice the fly rod.

Would be sweet to get on to some crappie, but think I got big enough streamers I could target some pike.

Re: Ottawa river/area wading question

I haven’t been out in the past few days, but I’ve observed that the river has been higher this year than most other years, and for longer. I could be wrong, but I think most spots will still be higher than you might want to wade in. I’d wait until about mid June, personally. Yeah seems like it. Thi...

Ottawa river/area wading question

Is the river still too high to wade? I went back to my 2 spots few weeks back and definitely not fishable right now. Has anyone been wading at all on the Ottawa or around? Is there anywhere I can go this week?

Thanks!!

Re: Daiwa CND custom ML eyelets

Try tying the FG knot and see if anything changes before blaming the rod . I’m not familiar with that particular rod but I do see in pictures of it that the tip is a bit recessed compared to the runners and that might be a problem ( in which case the solution is either to replace the tip with anoth...
