Most of Newfoundland is fly only, at least for salmon and most trout streams. Pretty sure that there are lakes and possibly some streams where you can use lures and such. However you will see most if not all depending on the area are posted as fly only. So it is a good idea to practice your fly fish...

I am assuming if you are fishing a small lake you are fishing out of a small boat. So downriggers and all that business, forget it.
