Re: Lower Rideau Ice

Hi Gord
There was a little over 8" near the Yacht Club launch on Sunday afternoon when I went out.
There were a few permanent shacks out and some guy drove a sidekick type suv out on the ice.
I was out about 150 metres.

Re: Ice Reports 2016

Thanks for the updates gentlemen. I am new to Fish-Hawk and new to ice fishing as well.. just got into it last year at the end of the season unfortunately. This year I have all of the gear and have been itching to get out there! I live in Kanata so this sounds very convenient for me... any recommen...

Re: There are still fish to be caught...

I have been out a couple times for an evening fish and have been successful for walleye fishing on a rock edge with a jig head and gulp leeches.
I wish I could get away for another evening out before Christmas but it appears I will have to wait until the weekend now.

Re: Recommendations for ultralight for panfish

I have an ultra light ugly stick. Love it.
I have caught many species on it, including pike! Fun ride when that happens.
A friend caught a laker on one this summer on big Rideau .. that was fun to watch.

Re: trolling advice

I have a Yamaha 150 hp and while it will go slow, the plugs fowl fairly quickly.
Get a kicker for sure.
Currently I have an 8 hp Merc (that I will be selling because shaft is a little short) and I am rebuilding a 9.9 Evinrude long shaft.

Re: July 15th fun fish - Taylor Park

One of these days I will make it out to one of these events/gatherings. I live out near Smiths Falls and work in Ottawa so going home to get the boat and coming back in is not ideal. I typically fish (and play) on Big Rideau. I have to plan it so I bring my boat in with me; I just need to measure th...

Great photos.
I miss that area. I grew up in that region and did a lot of fishing and had many shore lunches on those sandy beaches.
Thanks for sharing. They brought back many memories.

Boat motor service

Anyone know of a reputable marine repair company/person near Rockland/Plantagenet/Hawkesbury?
A friend bought a 5hp Shakespear motor and looking to get it tuned up and checked out prior to using.
Thanks

Re: Anyone ever go smelting?

When I lived in North Bay years ago .. 20ish .. we used to go smelting every year.
Caught and cleaned them the same way you mentioned.
I think the area we used to go is now a fish sanctuary.
My mom and I were talking about them a couple weeks ago and how tasty they were. :)
