We have a fish'n funrider pontoon boat that seats 10 ... so we have 10 adult lifejackets, plus a couple of kid sized jackets. Most non-boat owners don't have their own, so we just figure it as part of the cost of entertaining. We keep about 8 on the boat so we never have to think about it except whe...

Congrats on the new ride. We got a pontoon (Fishin' Funrider) last year and I went from a pretty ambivalent fisherman to a very enthusiastic one. They are soooo comfortable. With a potty and a BBQ on it, we can stay out for ages. There's room for to stretch out when you want a break, and a table to ...

Make sure you have read the regulation book, and have it and your licence with you. If you are new, you want to be able to identify what you caught, in case it is OOS. There are lots of rules which make sense to the ministry that may not occur to the average Joe, eg. what tackle is in your possessio...

Thanks. They do look interesting. At the very least they might be fun to explore with when the fish aren't biting. I did check out the site, but it's not like the company will ever say, "This puppy will be relegated to the bottom of your tackle box before you can say boo."

Smartcast Fishfinder?

It's toy buying time and I wondered if anyone who has used one of these would recommend them or not. I have a fish finder on the boat already (eagle 168 that came with the boat.) It seems like a good idea for checking out where you fear to go with the boat, and for not scaring off the fish, but is t...

Manual? ... I thought the documentation in the box was kind of spotty. All there was was a warranty card and a one page fold-out pamphlet that talked up the different features of the reel, but nothing else. I just called up the store and they confirmed that I didn't get the whole package. Thanks!

Loading my new baitcaster

Thanks to everyone who offered advice for my first baitcaster. Although it's not as stylin' as the Pfluegar I first wanted, I went for a Curado 201BSF (as suggested) and got a Compre rod to go with it. Now my question ... on the weekend when I got the rod, I didn't have the benefit of Fishhawk.net b...

Regarding bullhead, (aka barbotte, mudpout?), do they only bite at night? If they are biting now, how long will the season last? I want to fish them myself, (only fished them once about 25 yrs ago), along some of the streams feeding into the Ottawa between Arnprior and Renfrew. Are there any other g...

I went to a lot of sites on the web for buying a first baitcaster, so I can't remember exactly where I heard about the "magnetic brake" thing. I do remember that the site didn't suggest any brands, just general things to consider like, ratio, # of bearings, etc.
Thanks for the feedback.

I think the Pfleuger has the same centrifugal braking system. You remove some of the inside weights and you have less tendancy to create a birdsnest, but also lose a bit of distance on the cast. I guess you have the same trade-off with magnetic as well. I think I really liked what seemed like a lowe...

First Baitcaster?

Hi. This is also my first post here, so please excuse if the question seems dumb. Here's the background info. I have been fishing for about 5 years with a spinning reel. Now I want to try a baitcaster. My fishing partner and I fish every weekend from May to October and practically every day during A...
