Chris, I've been reading this thread with interest, given that I have suffered a similar incident earlier this year (although far less violent). Mine did not involve any damage or risk of life to a child - just a very heated discussion about why some people should never have been given the priviledg...

Chris, Glad that you and your family escaped any harm. Is there anything you can tell us about this butt or his boat so that the rest of us can identify him on/off the water? I'd like to keep and eye out for him to keep clear myself - or - to plow my truck into the side of his boat (depending on my ...

How is Pike Lake & launch?

I was thinking of trying Pike lake sometimes this weekend. Never been there and was thinking of giving it a go.

Can anyone tell me if the launch at Pike lake is in reasonably good condition? Is it super-busy there?

You "need" a permit to camp on Crotch Lake. I put "need" in quotes as the authority that the township has to levy any fee/fine on users of Crown land seems suspect. Crown land is supposed to be free to use by all. Like Sparky, I've stopped going to Big Gull/Crotch Lake ever since...

Canadian Bacon, I completly agree with you, Petrie is definitly heading the way of Rockland.... :( I wonder if there is still dicussion of building a bridge across to Quebec at the Cumberland ferry. I know there has been talk of this for years, but it looks like it's not going to happen any time soo...

Canadian Bacon, I'd be happy if development at Petrie stopped now. I think what the city has done is just fine - allowing a place for families to go relax (even if this development is being done at a slight cost to the environment). What I fear is that the development is far from over. With a condo ...

The development of Petrie Island is the worst thing to happen in the east end in a long time. Instead of leaving the area to develop naturally and let wildlife remain wild, the city is overdeveloping Petrie. The beach is nothing more than a place where garbage is being left behind by ignorant suburb...

I've been going to Big Gull for the past 4 years. I fish mainly the east portion of the lake, just after the narrows. Excellent walleye at dusk - usually jigging. Pike is also abundant, and I've had plenty of luck trolling. I've never got a muskie, but I've seen a couple pulled out by other fishermen.

How to Repair Scratches in Aluminum?

Hi, I've got a princefract aluminum boat (2001) in maroon color. I managed to get it badly scratched this weekend on a friend's dock overnight. There is now a small patch, about 10 inches wide, where the paint has been scratched off and there are small indents/scratches into the aluminum. I'd like t...

Head north past Bukingham to a place called Val-des-Bois. Put your boat in the river up there. The launch is behind a convenience store accross from a cemetary.

Thanks for the advice!

I was kind of hoping that there was at least a few walleye in the lake - but it looks like we'll be hunting for pike.

Either way, as long as I come home with my prop intact, I'll be happy!

How Safe is Bass Lake

Hi all, Buddy of mine is taking me to his cottage on Bass Lake - near Smith Falls - this weekend. The deal is I bring boat - he bring beer. Can anyone tell me what Bass Lake is like? Is it full of shoals and deadheads that are sure to cost me a new lower-end? Any part of the Lake that I should avoid...

If I recall correctly, the guy who showed up at the campsite was from North Frontenac Association...or something like that! It sounds to me like they may be trying to make a buck where they otherwise should not. I'm pretty sure that the MNR does it's best to maintain crown land with the many tax dol...

Crown Land Access Permits??

Hi, I went up to Big Gull Lake on Sat to do battle with some pickerel. We only went for the day as opposed to camping out the whole weekend - our usually Big Gull tradition. We stopped for lunch on one of the islands so that the dog could swim and releave herself. While we were there, a gentleman ca...
