Hey all,
I'm in the process of upgrading my electronics. Trying to decide on whether I need the navionics chip or not. If not, I can get a DI machine and use my iPhone for charts.
Is the chip worth it? Or just download the maps first on the phone and head out?

Re: 9.9 merc issues
Shouldn't take too long to drain the oil. Is the plug fouled?
Carburetor rebuilt?
You could try running seafoam thru the gas and see if it frees up the carb otherwise I'd start there.

Putting the boat away
Hey gang - I'm trying to stretch out my boating/fishing as long into the season as possible but with temps dropping to zero this friday - when is it time to cry uncle and put her away? I have a merc sterndrive.

Re: Resurrecting an old outboard
Well I got her going then something odd happened. When I turned, the motor RPM's revved high then down low then high again and then quit. Weird. After a couple more episodes, I lost spark in the top cylinder. I took it apart again and replaced the coil, and condenser as I knew the plug was still goo...

Re: Resurrecting an old outboard
Well - I swapped out the coils, condensers, points, put in a helical for a blown spark plug, rebuilt the carb and cleaned her up. Got ALL of my parts from Dave Scott at AIM Outboards - plus some GREAT advice!! Water tested it in a barrel o Tuesday and rough set the carb. Taking her out on Friday to ...

Re: Mississippi river bass near Almonte
About a kilometre down river from the falls in Almonte is a set of rapids (careful as there are low spots and carved out rock thought there - fast moving water). Drop a line in the rapids...caught tons of smallies. Lots of fun! I've caught walleye, pike and smallmouth at the bottom of the falls in A...

Re: Resurrecting an old outboard
Got er fired up!!! Lower plug was loose in the bore...needs some TLC. Could hear a hiss when I pulled the cord. Gently moved it into position and got a lock on the threads....started right up - second pull! How hot would the lower unit get after 5 mins of idling usually? It was hot to the touch but ...

Resurrecting an old outboard
Going to fire up our old outboard (1961 Evinrude Fastwin 18hp). Last time it ran was 15 years ago. Seals, wires, plugs were all redone that year and maybe 1hour of run time before it was put away. Carb had been rebuilt and oil changed when everything else was done. I am replacing the plugs, and chan...

Fitzroy and Galetta
Hey all, Went out today to Pakenham at the bridge. Out for two hours and only mustered 2 10" smallies. On the way home, I got to thinking about trying Fitzroy or Galetta. Does anyone know how to access the rapids at the bottom of the dam at Galetta or the low areas at Fitzroy? DO you have to pa...
