New Stuff

I think there are only a couple of options for your underwater camera question, and I have no experience with that sort of thing... I think a bimini top will give you shade during the summer at a much more reasonable cost than a full enclosure. If you are looking for late fall/winter protection that...

Alternatives to UPS

UPS (or Big Brown) will put the "blocks to you" everytime....I just paid near $100 in brokerage fees on a custom gunstock out of the US. I forgot to specify another courier.... Have bought tons of items of EBay (reels, boat parts) and anytime items have been sent with FedEx all has gone we...

Bad Weather

Didn't try too hard as I took my father (72 years old) and my son (7 years old) out yesterday. Yikes, the weather was nasty!! Wind and waves on the Rideau River like I have never seen. Got soaked and was pretty thankful to make it back to the boat launch. Trip home was in at least 3-4' rollers with ...

Your Bleedin Motor

I think you've got problems with that motor Bud! A bit of excess grease is not uncommon after you've lube grease fittings, but it looks like you've got poor seals or something on the motor. Way to much cr@#p on the leg of that motor. I would take in to a dealer for inspection and repair. Good luck, ...

Trout Habitat

You (and the royal "We") could get Trout Unlimited involved. There are also other Habitat Conservation groups out there - Ducks Unlimited, the Nature Consevancy, River Keepers, etc. Some will buy property, others restore habitat and enter into agreements with developers/landowners to promo...

Keeping your boat your boat

I have several recommendations: 1) have your coupler tack welded to the frame, otherwise the bad guys can simply use a socket set / change couplers and take your boat; 2) lock the coupler with one of those ball-locks as shown in another post above: 3) always lock your receiver hitch to the vehicle: ...

Blake: Generally, a clean looking motor means it has been well cared for. Look for a clean finish, not too many scrapes, a clean prop, etc. On the two strokes, compression is everything. A few pounds difference on a two cylinder is nothing to be alarmed by, but more than 6 pounds I would be suspect....

The Show

I agree that 12 bucks is steep. I got the weekend pass but couldn't think of a compelling reason to go back. I have promised myself this year was the last time I go. On the other hand, I did the boating exam. Glad to get the outta the way! And spoke to a the Outoauouais (sp?) outfitter association. ...

THE Tow Vehicle - Video

Gotta check this video out. On other boating sites, the debate rages as to who has THE tough truck. I'm in awe by this.

Vexilar vs. Lowrance

Have the Vexi, and it works amazing! I have lowrance products in several boats, but think the Vex works very well particularly for the stationary quality of ice fishing. You don't need to see bottom contours, only the bottom, the lure that you are working, and lots of fish. I've used a Lowrance port...

Break- ins

There isn't alot you can do, but you do need to take pics and record the Serial Numbers of the big items likes augers. When I got ripped-off, I was asked by the OPP for a SN on my 20 year old Jiffy. I didn't have it. I hadn't put any etched markings on the other items either. Without this info no ch...

Break ins

A bunch of us got robbed on the Rideau last year at the mouth of the Kemptville Creek and at the Ferguson Forest Centre. Took my Jiffy and propane heater. I would say it was someone with another shack or who had driven by on a sled as they only broke into the huts with power augers. Nothing in the s...
