If anyone can add their knowledge of the upper French River to this thread I'd sure like to hear about it. Smallies are the target and launch sites are still undecided especially if anyone knows of any boat ramps on the south east side of Nipissing. At this point, it seems as tho' the only way to ac...

I tried the Bass Pro XPS series baitcaster last year for $60 US and I've got to admit that they are great. I've got Shimanos, Diawas, Pfleugers, taht are more expensive reels but those BPs are exceptional for the money. I think from time to time BP offers a rod reel combo for about $80 with this ree...

No offense taken!! You should hear the tales my buddies tell with absolutely dishonest embellishments for the shear squirm factor they may inflict!!! I hear ya, Trapperdirk! My only reprisal is that none of them has ever come close to besting my daily catch record. (I know they're lurking here. :win...

No Trapperdirk, We are what I said we are.....just a bunch of buddies from different States who get together once a year to fish. A financial broker, a salesman, a college football coach, a medical products tech, a retired plant mgr., a retired carpenter, a Home Depot buyer and me, a retired civil e...

trapperdirk You catch on quickly! We target smallies specifically when in Canada and know that the real lunker green backs live in the sunny south US. We spend a bundle and like it. It's absolutely the best bucks spent in a given year for me and I'm confident I speak for the rest of the group, too. ...

trapperdirk Thanks for the headsup on Trout Lake. This group of eight guys will fish anywhere for anything in any weather, so they're avid to say the least. We consider ourselves to be good fishermen and have great respect for the fisheries and local folks that we feel sometimes we may, infringe upo...

I suppose it would be too much to ask that gobies could help irradicate the Cormorants. Just a thought! Erie has it's share of invasive species from eels to mussels. The water toxicology reports I've been reading lately are so alarming that I don't keep anything from Erie. No perch, walleye. N...

You folks are the greatest. Thanks to all. I love this Fish-Hawk site. I think we'll drive a few hours and try the west end. Since most have have shared their great east end experiences it only reinforces my desire to fish the west end. Since we'll be coming from Matawa can anyone give us directions...

Well, a great big THANK YOU to everyone that responded. Sounds like our cup o tea! We'd prefer to hit the western end but as most pointed out it'd be a long run at 30 MPH and possibly rough conditions from the North Bay end. Can you drive to that end? How far is the drive from North bay and where ca...

Hey Muskiematt: I fish Lake Erie in pretty big waves but the differnce is the distance between them makes it ok, sometimes. Waves 6' high and 30 feet apart are a whole lot better than if they're 3' high and 6' apart. Know what I mean? The latter is what I would expect on Nipissing. Also, to fish wal...

Thanks gents! As I said this being our first trip to Nipissing we don't know if it's worth our effort. It's a shallow lake and being that I've lived on the south shore of Lake Erie all my life I know just how cantankerous a shallow lake can be. We have so many other places we fish up there, divertin...

Lake Nipissing
I'm a Newbie to this site. We've owned a cabin on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River across from the town of Chaulk River since the '30s and have been summering there from Ohio for over 35 yrs. now. A group of us have been thinking of taking a few days of our annual 2 week fishing trip to fish Lake...
