I have no problems with powerpro been using it forever, but I use 80 # test minimum.
One trick to keep the ice off in the fall is a silicone spray on your eyelets, I was out Saturday and there was some ice on my line but it can easily be taken care of by letting some line out or in.

I have the same problem trying to get my kid hooked up. just getting into it so not looking at spending a lot of $$$ if he's not going to ice fish a lot. So for now we just keep drilling 2 more holes ( old hand auger is hard on old man ) everytime he goes out. Might look at getting a used power auge...

I had mentioned how high the water was when it frooze, it allready has dropped over a foot breaking away from the shore.
