I tie directly all of the time. I have found that wetting the line (spit usually) helps to keep the knots from slipping. I use the improved clinch knot on PP line and have no problems with knots slipping. I have been usin PP for a full season and love it.

I saw it last week, the Salmon fishing on Lake Ontario. It was a very refreshing show, a different style that I liked. Is Jen always the guest or does that change from week to week? I like Jen, she seemed to be enjoying herself, but it appeared she is only along for the fun and not to host the show....
