Going crappie fishing this weekend on one of the local lakes down here. Our ice fishing consists of dropping a rock off the dock to break the thin layer of ice.

Also even the best depthfinder doesn't prevent someone from hitting that
lone rock that's a foot or two below the water. Paying attention and watching your speed in unfamiliar areas beats electronics everytime.

Welcome to the forum.

Do you hunt with dogs? I just got a new Llewellin puppy. Hunting this year with my 2 1/2 year old Lab--she's a retrieving machine, but not a real strong nose on her.

always goes bang

Recently read an article about the 870, and the gist was they always go bang. I know from the one I've owned for 30 years, that's always been the case, and I've fired a lot of shells thru it.

As a side note for you grouse hunters, just got a new Llewellin setter puppy out of King Kennel.

Looks like it needs to be treated like heavy "slop" would be in calm water, heavy action rod and 20lb+ line. I'd use a Texas Rig, with a lot of weight.

Of course I might not catch any fish doing that.

Good Luck, can't catch'em if you don't try.

Here's a tip that may help when you're first using a baitcaster. When casting, release at 11:00 and at the same time rotate the reel 90 degrees so that the handle is straight up.

If I did something similar with old car tires or other miscellaneous junk, I'd be accused of polluting.
