walleye opening - trolling
Hi Everyone : Over the past 3 years, I am finding that trolling in May with a floating Rapala firetiger is very successful. Shallow bays are the best bet and I'm finding that it is not necessarily when the sun goes down, but when a shadow is cast on the bays from tree cover(obvious since low light c...

Minn Kota Endura 55 lbs. thrust - power usage ???
Hi Everyone : I just purchased an Endura 55 Lb thrust electric trolling motor. I have a 12 foot aluminum boat(deep hull). I'm curious about power drain : According to the manual the power usage is 1 amp/hour per pound of thrust. At full speed(55 lbs), a 55 amp/hour battery would be needed to drive t...

powerhead removal on mercury 4.5 HP outboard
Hi Everyone :
With respect to my mercury 4.5 HP outboard, I removed 6 nuts which surround the lower end housing and I can't seem to get the power head off.
Does anyone have any tips ?

jiffy model 30 ice auger gad flooding
Hi Everyone : I just bought a new jiffy model 30 and I managed to tune the carb for low and high idle. This auger is very temperamental - I found that I would have to open the throttle while pulling the cord (I know it's unsafe, but it wouldn't start most of the time). I am using the correct oil:fue...

jiffy model 30 ice auger - blade protector strap
Hi Everyone : I just purchased a jiffy model 30 on sale at Canadian Tire. When I first opened the box, I didn't find an owner's manual or the blade protector strap. I then noticed on the box that it said "Display", so Canadian Tire used the one I bought for display and I am assuming that t...

watch out for property owners ! I've heard that most of the roads are private in the area and you may get screamed at by the these wankers - they don't understand that the lake is not owned by them. I wanted to try that lake as well because splake is open all year. I'm in the same situation you are ...

thanks for the information - I should have seen the exception in the guide. The Lac De Chats area is where I was thinking of going after March 1, but it is a fsh sanctuary as you pointed out. Where is a good spot to ice fish (safe ice thickness) after March 1 for walleye on the Ottawa from West Otta...

Bait Ban by 2010 ??? Ice Fishing shut down by 2010 ???
Hi Everyone : I was talking to a bait shop owner west of Ottawa and he mentioned that the ministry in Onatrio is talking about banning minnows(and possibly anyhting organic) by 2010. He also mentioned that they might ban ice fishing too as well as shut down lakes for fishing. I don't mean to scare a...
