Thanks, Salar. Are there any special considerations accessing the river? I see PFR (on the DEC site) off of route 374, but my experience locating sections of PFR on some rivers has been.. well.. sketchy. Things are often unmarked and I've been hesitant to just go trodding off into someone's field ju...

fishing conditions

Hi, everyone. I'm curious if anybody's been to upper New York state yet this year, and what the conditions are like? Specifically, I'm interested in trout in the Adirondacks rather than salmon near Pulaski or the lake Champlain tributaries. Last year, I got out a few times in early spring, but the s...

salmon river, new york state

I went down to New Nork state today. The water on the salmon river is still very high. I fished just above Chasm Falls, where the water was a bit slower. While I didn't catch a thing, the weather was great. Talking to the locals, they say the water levels should be better in a couple of weeks. The h...

Thanks, Fishboy. I'll check out that fly shop. My excursions to the lachine rapids last year didn't suggest any of it was very wadeable.. looked kind of deadly to me, but maybe water levels were just too high. Other forums, such as QP, suggest that the lachine rapids are more accessible by boat, esp...

I think I'll head to New york at least once this year. But I have family in Ottawa, which puts me there quite frequently. It's also a good opportunity for the kids to see their grandparents, while my wife and I go fishing... at least until the kids are old enough to hold fishing rods themselves, wit...

Yeah, I've booked a day clinic with the local fly fishing club at Tremblant for mid May. But that seem soooo faaar awaaaay. :D If the only opportunities really do require a float tube, I may just look into getting one.

I appreciate the reply!

I see carp all the time scuba diving in the St. Lawrence around Prescott. They're huge, and a little intimidating the first time you see them swim past you. It must be quite something to catch one on the fly. Good luck!

new to fly fishing, looking for trout waters in Ottawa area

I'm also new to the forum. Very nice, by the way. Lots of useful information. I'm native to the ottawa area and have spent most of my time fishing for bass and pike. I've had some luck with trout in Algonquin park, mostly on canoe trips in late summer, but I don't get out there much since I'm in Mon...
