in terms of shaft lenth grab a minnkota catolog and you should find how to measure for shaft length and reccomended lbs of thrust for your application.
i used their guide for my application and couldn't be happier with the results.

trogan over here with a 55 pd minnkota will last for about 4 days , wasn't cheap but i have no complaints

guy form work (kingston) is always ice fishing on newboro says it's good for pike.
but i agree with wolfe , lots of lakes around there and i think it will be hard to skunk out
