Doh, that's sad to hear. Maybe I'll take schooner off my hopeful list for now. Thanks for the heads up. :(

Wow, that map site is pretty great! I've been using Angler's Atlas website mostly but it didn't have wabun lake or a few others. Thanks for sharing! :)

Wow, thanks for all the suggestions! I hadn't heard of Wabun, Schooner, or Shabomeka but I'll have to look into them. I just noticed them on the stocking lists too, might be worth investigating. Muskrat seems interesting too, though the maps I can find don't have a scale so it might be way bigger th...

Lakers from a canoe?

Hey guys, Last year I tried (and failed) to go trout fishing in some of the backwoods lakes in the Calabogie area with info from helpful FH members and the MNR stocking lists. Spent a good many hours taking my poor car where no car should go only to get forced to turn around 75% of the way in each t...

Thanks for the tips guys! I'm going to look into those towable sled options, if there's an easy/inexpensive way to get a bit more gear onto the ice, maybe I'll be ok with just a coleman type stove... haha. :)

Haha, don't laugh but I had to google "Vexilar" to figure out what it was. And, after reading their webpage I still don't really know what the heck it does! Haha :D Anyway, that is a good idea... My only problem is that another change I've had to adapt to is not having room for a skidoo......

Fires while ice fishing

Hey guys, Even though it used to be a weekly winter activity, I haven't ice fished in almost 10 years. My wife has recently become a bit of a fishing fanatic and she's decided that I HAVE to take her out ice fishing this year. No more waiting for softwater. I know, I know... rough life! ;) Now, when...

It may be a day or two late, but add another vote for Kert. He took 3 of us out for a day, caught my dad his first Musky and gave us the best smallmouth fishing action I've ever had. Though, my girlfriend's nickel+ PB smallie he helped her get now officially destroys my PB of 4.5lbs. He even brought...

Thanks for the info guys! I think we'll definitely hit the Morris Island and Fitzroy area this weekend and see how it looks. I've never actually been there so it'll be all new to me :) Does anyone have any suggestions for a good place to launch a canoe in Lake Madawaska that puts me closer to some o...

Ottawa Area Canoe Fishing Ideas?

Hey guys, My Dad is gonna be visiting me again and he's definitely hoping I can get him out fishing a few times. He's visited before and we hit Petrie Island and Lake Madawaska a few times and had a lot of fun, but I'm wondering if anyone has any suggestions of new places we can throw my canoe in to...

Thanks for all the replies and PMs guys! I was able to get a day trip with Musky Stalker and he's gonna put us onto both Musky and Bass. I can't wait. Thanks again for all the help. I'm so stoked, I can't wait to see my dad's face. Sounds like it could be an action packed day! :D Jay, I might have t...

That's a brilliant idea! :D Maybe I should look for a half half day of Musky and half day Bass. I never thought of that. Get the best of both worlds. Thanks, I'll contact those guys and see. Please feel free to recommend other guides just in case they aren't available. I really appreciate the input!...

Thanks for the replies! :) He's coming up between the 12th and the 19th of July. He's kind of on a whirlwind trip so he's travelling very light. Another reason for the guide would be that he'd only need to bring himself basically. We're kinda limited that way. :( I've never targetted Musky (Caught m...

Help with finding an Ottawa-area guide

Hi guys, My Dad's coming to visit me in Ottawa this July and I'd love to treat him to a guided fishing trip on the Ottawa River (Or somewhere nearby) for either Bass or Musky. We wouldn't be looking for trophies, just for a day of steady action on the water since my Dad has never fished Bass or Musk...

Quick question from an Ottawa area newbie. Very related to this topic because I'm super-conscious of fishing seasons (Something my Dad beat into me at a young age! Hahaha :D ) I come from Northern Ontario and there's no bass at all there. It's pretty cut and dry, you're either fishing pike, walleye ...

Thanks for the info guys! That folding boat seems really neat too... It's too bad they aren't closer to Ottawa, I'd love to see one in person. Can an electric motor actually push the smaller ones at a decent pace? That is a really neat idea if it works. :) Has anyone ever tried that Yakka folding ka...
