Re: Spinning vs casting
No to the Carrot Stix. Do some research on the history of that company and the quality of the products. As a bass fisherman, you'll benefit most from a casting set-up. Learn to use it. Downside, they cost more relative to spinning for an equivalent quality set-up. You can get a decent $50 spinning r...

Re: Lake Nipigon PIC HEAVY!!!!!!!!!!
Amazing fish! Nipigon never seems to disappoint.
I can't imagine being in a place like Lake Nipigon and being able to pay my respects to lost loved ones. That must be an incredible feeling.
Thanks for the report.

Re: Can Lake Trout be caught on trout-nuggets, trout paste?
I am pretty sure those dough baits work mostly for stocked fish. Not sure if I would use that still fishing for Lake Trout though. However, Lakers will chase anything.

Re: Best fishing line
Pick any braid and use a long fluorocarbon leader. You can tie them together with a uni-uni knot, reverse Albright knot or using a small barrel swivel. The fluorocarbon designated as leader material is definitely better as a leader, but you can get away with the regular stuff but I'd go up a bit in ...

Re: You think lakes will be open in 2 weeks?
The big changes usually occur the last two weeks in April. The extended forecasts I looked at seem like things are on track - warmer weather + rain. That should kill ice fast. Assuming one can trust the forecast

Re: A great, low visibility braid?
If you want low visibility, just use a fluorocarbon leader. You generally have to anyway because braid frays at the cut point if you don't have really sharp cutting tools and isn't as easy to tie a good knot as it is for mono or flouro. Most brands of braid are very similar in makeup. However, one o...

I am partial to G Loomis and St. Croix. I always found the Shimano power ratings higher than stated, but my experience is limited to the sub $150 class rods.

Re: Minnow preservation
I'd follow this salting method or this one . The Canning and Pickling salt used in the above recipeis common salt (Sodium Chloride) without the additives like anti-caking ingredients and iodine. I doubt it matters much what salt you use for curing minnows, but a finer grain is probably better. You c...

Re: Walleye Trip suggestions????
I've been to Lady Evelyn Lake two times. One week in late June/early July and one week in early August. I think it's reasonable to catch 10-15 Walleye a day, but there is definitely potential for a lot more; which is a lot more than I can say for all the inland lakes I've fished in Southern Ontario....

Re: Quebec on-line fishing
One suggestion is to look at private cottges for rent on the lake. They will often include what fish are in the lake. The one I found dor Lac a la Barbue states the lake is stocked with Brown and Rainbow trout.

I used http://www.VRBO.com and rented a nice cottage in the Minden, Ontario area last year. The nice thing about vacation rentals by owner is that their is no additional finders fee.
