Re: Name the Fishing Clubs and Competitive series in Eastern

What about the Muskies Canada chapters in eastern Ontario and the OLSENA fishing club in Brockville (perhaps the oldest club in Ontario - if not Canada)? OLSENA is lake trout orientated, but friendships are made which leads to fishing for other species.

Knot(s) Copper Braid to Snap/Swivel

For many years I have always used a simple haywire twist when attaching single strand copper wire to a snap/swivel on my deep water trolling rig(s). However, I have recently been given a spool of the softer, 30lb test copper 7 Strand braid and would like to give it a try. I would appreciate if someo...

As DropShot'r recommends, you just can't beat Marc Thorpe as a muskie guide on the St. Lawrence. Although he primarily fishes further east, he will travel. Suggest you try Lac St. Francis or further east instead of Gananoque area where the muskies are few and far between - due in great part to the d...

Joe - I have a retired friend who lives in Kendall Park, NJ. He also has a summer cottage on the St. Lawrence near Gananoque (1000 Islands area). He is an avid musky angler and is always looking for a fishing partner whether up here in Ontario or down in NJ. If you'd like to hook-up with him, send m...

Excellent report Out4trout! Thanks. I have fished the Charleston lake trout for many years. In fact, when I learned to fish them in the mid-1950's at my Grandfather's knee, we were still referrring to them as "salmon" and the Johnny Green and the copper Hex Canoe Spoons were the favourite ...

Sorry, but I'm with horsehunter on this one. It's a cash tournament any way you slice it. In my opinion, muskies don't deserve that kind of pressure.

Ganman is absolutely correct. Unless you stay inside the channel markers, the Thousand Islands can be treacherous to strangers. I have an up-to-date GPS/chip and yesterday it was off over 50 ft. The best advice I can give is to visit one of the marinas in Rockport/Ivy Lea or in Gananoque and purchas...

The most successful anglers for lake trout on Charleston are still the old "wiremen." Their lure of choice is the Johnny Green with a perch or sunfish tail attached to the single fixed hook. The tail drapes over the trailing treble. Preferable finish is chrome/copper, but chrome/brass work...

If it was for musky or large pike, difficult to beat the Daiwa Heartland Specialty series of rods in the price range you're looking for. Try the 6'6". one piece rod rated for 20-40 lb line weight and 1 -5 oz lures. Good for casting or trolling. And less-expensive at Le Baron ($61.45) than in th...

Le Baron, Ottawa, No tax

Was just in to Le Baron in Ottawa this morning to purchase another musky rod. No PST or GST on sales during April 15, 16 & 17th. It was a nice surprise.

Use Comet or Ajax cleanser. Gently rub on with a sponge and then rinse. Easy, quick, safe, and a decades old solution to dirty cork grips.

For trolling (and occasional casting), it's difficult to beat a Super Shad Rap (try Red & White or Perch). Larger Williams Wablers or Len Thompson spoons also produce well. In the heat of summer, you may have to add an ounce or two of weight to get down to trophy size fish. In the late summer an...

The way to access Redhorse from Charleston is via Donaldson's Bay. There is an old Indian portage on the southwest side of Donaldson's which runs for several hundred yards over into Redhorse. It is still used by avid canoers during the summer months; I have never used it during the winter. As an ado...

Good observation and advice from Peppino. Muskie anglers often run into large pike while trolling during the summer and fall months - especially here in the Thousand Islands. In mid-August, I caught and released a 42 incher while trolling about 14 feet down in 35 fow with a 9" black/purple Cisc...

Whatever you choose, try to buy the best quality that you can afford without bringing hardship to yourself or family. When I was a young man ca.1970, I purchased DAM Quick spinning reels (110, 220 & 330) which, along with the Cardinal (Abu) reels, were the finest of their era. My baitcasting ree...
