Re: float tubes
I picked myself up a pontoon boat boat instead of a float tube. I'm planning ahead for this summer and was wondering if anyone has any advise or tips on float day trips. Specifically distance between put in and take outs, and ferrying equipment and vehicles back and forth. I would imagine there is g...

Re: new fall strategy
I have been practicing my casting and trying a few things. I'm getting better and longer casts with the weighted flies. I shortend, and stiffend the leader and by having a little patience on the back cast, I could see and feel the rod load up with the extra weight of the clouser, then powering forwa...

magnifying lamp
I'm setting up a fly tying bench and was wondering is it worth getting a magnifying lamp or just have good lighting and wear high power "readers". I'm thinking the lamp might be a pain getting in the way.

snowshoe hares feet
Do many local fly-tiers use snowhoe hares feet. I hunt hare quite a bit. Are they worth saving, and maybe bringing to a club fly swap etc.

Re: new fall strategy
I mistated my line type in the early post, it is actually a wf floating 5 weight line. I find I can throw the typical size nymphs, wet flies, and small streamers around with a little confidence. I have more trouble when I try casting clouser type flies ,large streamers, or a large foam hopper with a ...

new fall strategy
I think I'll pack it in for this year and get ready for next spring. The last couple of trips locally have only produced fallfish. I noticed activity in general is way down, I suppose with the drop in temps the bass, crappie, sunfish drop back to deeper water. Another sure sign the little old orient...

Re: fall strategy
I'm still getting bit with the nymphs, upd the size a bit to # 6 stone fly black. Change of species though was surprised with two pike, then even more surprised with three pickerel. Then I thought about it some more "rapids below the dam right at dark" where else would you catch pickerel. ...

float tubes
I have no experience with float tubes. I have been enjoying wading so far but have run into problems with the fast water shallows running out and I find my self retreating due to steep banks with soft bottoms over hanging trees etc. The questions I would put to an experienced tuber are, how easy is ...

Its seems like insect activity has dropped off. Is there a species or bite to concentrate on for the fall. Open to suggestions.

Re: late hex
The fast water smallmouth in this area seem to key in on the mayflies. As posted earlier had success with prince nymphs and zug bugs. This evening I started out with a crayfish pattern and had a bit of success but thought I could do better. So I switched to a # 6 Muddler with a #12 BH Hares Ears dro...

late hex
I was out late last week, at the local rapids, too hot and humid to work around the place. I was having a bit of fun with the smallies and fallfish using prince nymphs and zug bugs. Then about an hour before dark I noticed a flight of large mayflies. The action picked right up with fish rising all a...

The Rabbit hunting season in eastern Ontario runs from sept thru till the end of march. Don't let the deer camp lay idle all winter.
