Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
I was going to pull my shack out today but glare ice and 40kmh winds made me rethink it. doing it tomorrow instead. I was out on the 4 wheeler today though and punched a few holes. Ran from the 10th line up to john's marina and everywhere looked good. The thinnest parts of the channel I found were s...

Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
parking is on the side of the road or out on the ice (not recommended at this time!) This isn't a drive on access at any point regardless of ice conditions. The snowmobile trail accesses the ice there and even if you could get a car or truck down that hill you'd be hard pressed to get back up it. O...

Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
Just got in from checking the ice. The shore is super sketchy but i'm 265 lbs and didn't break through, I imagine it will firm up over night tonight. went out and drilled 2 holes about 200-250 yards out from shore and one was 8 1/2 inches and the other was 9 inches. both solid black ice. I'd imagine...

Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
Crazy what a good cold night can do... Just went out and punched a few holes at Gardiner shore again. Right at shore still had a very little amount of slush, my boot only broke through the crust once. Every hole had 9 inches of ice, it was a mix of hard black and soft white. Saw a few snowmobiles ou...

Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
This week put a hurting on the ice where I'm at.
Places that were 7 inches of solid black last weekend are maybe 6 inches of crap soft white ice with lots of slush in places.
This is at the bay off of Gardiner shore. Could be better in other places.

Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
I went out to check the ice this weekend at Gardiner shore. Ventured out about halfway across the bay and was at least 7 inches of solid black ice everywheye I checked. Only fished for a couple of minutes just to say that I had. I imagine after the slightly warmer temps they are calling for at the s...

Re: Mississippi Lake Ice Reports
there is a public boat launch there.MichaelGA wrote:Where is the access to the ice at fathers point?
it's at the 9th line of beckwith just around where it turns into tennyson rd, just past Johns marina. the launch is at the end of the street and parking is at the stop sign at the top of the road.

i use a chainsaw file set for mine.
just keep the angles the same and make sure you do the guide point as well.
i do a 10 minute job on my strikemaster at the start of each season and it stays sharp right till the end.

it's not in town but I'm sure that west marine in kingston would have it and if not they would likely be able to order it for you.

Re: darling long lake/ long lake creek
there is a trail that leads into it from the big power lines as well, i found it by accident and probably couldn't do it again but it is possible.
went in with a jeep and a full size pick up, way better suited to an atv or snowmobile though.

Re: Jiffy Model 30 ice auger not cutting well
It all depends on what kind of cutting system you have, I believe all jiffys (and my strikemaster) have the chipper style blade I'm not sure what other brands have that style as well. Its the style that's in the link I posted earlier. From the sounds of it your auger has the shaver style blade and t...
