i don't know what the proper name for it is, but if the pointed tip at the end isn't sharp then that will happen regardless if you have new blades. its really easy to sharpen, just use a file or sharpening stone and follow the angle of the point. it only takes 10 minutes or so. i have a very old strike master with a tecumseh engine. went to start it yesterday and the spark plug wire has split right at the coil.
