Here is some interesting stuff... I've been anxious to catch one of these too, having heard stories about them. They can walk on their fins or something?

Strip the line off the reel up to the backing into a sink with a little bit of dish soap and water. Let the line soak for a while. Dry the line off with a soft clean cloth and reel it back onto the spool. If the spring, get rid of the line memory by stretching the line. Have someone hold the end of...

Calculating body size for bass poppers...
Are there any charts, or rules of thumb I can use when I am tying bass and panfish poppers to get the right body size for the size and style of hook I am using? I'm having trouble finding any good books (my internet connection is to slow to really look online). I'm making them out of foam, deerhair ...

Getting my reel and line ready for winter storage
I was wondering how to look after my floating line for winter. I have a cartridge reel, is it ok to leave it on the cartridge, off the reel, for the winter? Is there a good way to clean it that doesn't involve the brand name cleaners? (I live far away from any good tackle shops.) Thanks!

Survival of gut hooked fish?
I was creek fishing for speckles today, using worms and a #10 hook. There are always a lot of little ones, 3-5 inch snakes, but I caught a fantastic one today, 7 inches and nice and fat. Beautiful colours on him, but he was big enough to swallow everything, I couldn't even see the hook eye. I figure...

Re: no 4
Hi mad dog .. I used # 4 hooks .... they are some Cdn tire special (kind of no name brand) ... but really any brand will do ... it's the "snelled" hooks style that just fits on a swivel real easy .. that with a tiny bit of bit of worm and you are in business. I also use a bobber ... more ...

Re: another idea
I had the kids out to the lake a few weeks ago and we must have caught in excess of 40 panfish ... I find you have to set the hook right away with these little guys ... we only lost 1 fish all week and that was because someone let it sit there for a while unattended ... also we pinch off the barb i...

Good hook to use so panfish don't swallow it...
Fishing with my son for sunfish today, using #8 Mustad hooks with a Gulp! maggot on them, and the 4-6 inch sunfish were swallowing the hook each time. Any way to avoid this, we're just fishing for fun, and I hate to see them hooked like that. Maybe it's me, I set the hook to late, or those maggots a...

Learning to Fly Fish in the Valley, Part II
Part 2: Going Fishing and Trying to Cast The morning after I bought my gear, I went to a little beach on the Madawaska, between Combermere and Palmer Rapids to try my stuff out on the water. My family often goes there, my wife sunbathes, my son plays in the water, and I catch sunfish and rock bass,...

Learning to Fly Fish in the Valley, Part I
Part 1: Getting Some Gear This spring, (2010) I got a major bug to start fishing, something I haven`t done since my ultimate moment catching a 2 lb largemouth when I was 12 or 13. For Father`s Day I got a inexpensive Daiwa spinning combo, took the young lad out, went out myself a few times and had ...
