Re: float tube question
Beavers not the problem but I have been chased 3x by snappers.. Mind you, I am on the water more than most. Noone else I know has had this happen. Also had a loon swim under me. That was scary when you know how they deal with rivals, LOL. WRT snappers, just paddle away as fast as you can. They event...

fishing reports
I haven't been posting here or even looking that much in quite awhile. Cudos to RJ for taking over the website. I want to encourage all of you flyfishers to send your fishing reports of the year into the Ministry. I was talking to the stocking guy in Bancroft and he was urging me to go into a walk i...

Re: Spawning and fishing
The Ontario.ca quote is a bit misleading and I'm surprised by it. I was told by a CO that if you catch an out of season fish you MUST move on. If they are watching and you cast again in the same area, you will be ticketed.

Re: Anyone fished Rockingham Creek, near Combermere, Ontario
Haven't been on this site for months. I frequent a western website more suited to trout people such as myself. Rockingham Creek does have trout in it, perhaps because of a private club lake further upstream. The reason for the closure on brookies in the fall is because there is some natural reproduc...

Re: Loop at end of fly line?
I've tied my leaders onto fly lines using nail knot and variations thereof for years. But this year I put on braided loops that RIO makes. Available at Green Drake. You thread the line through the braided loop and glue the slide over. Many fly lines come with a loop attached. I've had guides rip off...

Re: darling long lake/ long lake creek
I wasn't going to post on this string anymore but I was curious about Darling Long. I've fished it for years and only caught one small brown but I have seen large ones caught and a partner had two big ones break off after seeing it in the air. It is a tough lake to fish but I hope they will continue...

Re: white lake report
OK. You guys have had your fun. Am I going to get kicked off FishHawk for expressing my opinion. Not likely. You need people like me to keep a conservation perspective front and center. Am I going to get kicked off the Advisory Panel. Not likely. I'm one of the few who attends almost every meeting (...

Re: white lake report
I had not thought about this clearly before making my comment. If you have pieces of a walleye around when a CO happens to come by (which is unlikely), how do you prove that it was in the slot? I guess one should keep the carcass as a whole with fillets removed until the time you leave then dispose ...

Re: white lake report
Just to remind readers that there is a new zone wide regulation on keeping walleye. Only between 40 to 50 cm (15.7" to 19.7")

Re: trout release
The OFS has a stocking program which I run so I know quite a bit about this (although we haven't done any for a couple of years since Thistle closed). MNR stocks almost all of its trout in April. They prefer to stock in the winter but they rarely get any fish during that time. It all depends on the ...

Re: Required reading for all who love Brook Trout
Great article. If something doesn't change, we'll have a worse situation around here. Now if brook trout are so dumb, how come I spent almost four hours on an accessible lake in FMZ 18 which stocks 4000 brookies every year and not get a single bite? And before anyone responds that I don't know how t...

Re: Brown Trout Tactics
Keep in mind that they stock the Grand with 50K+ browns each year (and that was a few years ago....I haven't kept up). I'm sure that NY is stocking the rivers in that kind of number as well as they can afford to do it. As a result you can expect to catch a brown using normal tactics. To put in only ...

Re: Humpies (Restricted)
Its hard to be sure why the rainbow trout fishing has declined in our area but it definitely has in the last few years. I just had another pretty good day at a small brook trout lake so looking at my records, I would say that particular lake is as good as has been for the past ten years. The Rainbow...
