Re: Port Hope Salmon/Steelhead this spring
For the section thats open all year you don't user waders. A long net to land them is handy. Waders would be good but a good set of waterproof boots are fine too and many sections don't need them so I wouldn't sweat the waders for now. I'd consider your first trip a reconnaissance, it won't be perfe...

Re: Port Hope Salmon/Steelhead this spring
I used to fish Port Hope every spring in late March to the April opener to combat spring fever. Yes, before the April opener on the main river but the season in Zone 17 includes an open all year section on the Ganaraska River - between the southerly limit of the CNR right-of-way and Lake Ontario. Se...

Re: UNDER WATER FISHING CAMERA
II have two. I bought an inexpensive compact camera on Amazon. I use it ice fishing, position it above my minnow and watch the fish come up. You'd be surprised how many fish totally ignore your bait, they bump it and then take off like they are scared of the minnow. I also jig in view of the camera ...

Re: Wading Ottawa
- ottawa river - these are not secret spots. I and many others fish them Champlain bridge, Ottawa side, upstream from bridge - park in the lot and walk under bridge ... trails to the watet --- when water is low (aug, sept) you can wade far out. Smallmouth everywhere and they fight in the current. Suc...

Re: opeongo algonquin labour day
We canoe fish. We used snap weights, 2-3 oz, toss back 50 ft, clip on weight, let out 50-80 ft with a little cleo. Start paddling and tada. We were just trolling to the destination so not targeting specific locations. I suspect its because we cover water travelling from place to place. I assume we'r...

Re: Fishing the rideau river
I have fished the Rideau from the Hogsback falls all the way downtown for years. Whacky senkos are pretty good in some spots, tight weed edges where the current is slow and in backwaters, and patience to wait until they sink. In faster current, not good as they just don't sink down. For faster curren...

Re: Petrie Island Sunday
Thanks for the advice, will give it a go... Funny, I did have a rap on for a bit, but those lures swim in circles around the camera wire so kind of annoying... Same for over eager minnows which get their revenge by tangling your rig I have fished till dark a few times, and I have seen some nice fish...

Re: Petrie Island Sunday
I've considered getting a camera myself, but I've come to the conclusion that it's just going to make me even more frustrated than ever. 100% correct First thing you notice is how many fish ignore you. Drives you crazy. Second thing you notice is how often you futz with the camera to position it an...

Petrie Island Sunday
Well, I've spent some time on the ice and its been pretty slow. The main entertainment has been the cheap underwater camera I have. Was able to watch walleye and perch all day eyeing my bait, and a couple of soft nibbles but they refused to bite. I had two real takes, where I watched the fish half e...

Great bass evening
The other night on the harvest moon, I went out with the electric and silently toured my bay. A great way to unwind, so quiet. It started slow, but then found a spot where the topwater bite was insane, almost every cast, you'd get a blow up or a hook-up, it was wild. Got five, lost many more as they...

Re: Attention pontoon boat fisher people
I have a traditional deep-v fishing boat but my pal has a big pontoon. It is a lot of fun to fish out of, especially lake trout trolling as you basically drive around (trolling) in a living room size space, while waiting for a bite. Very comfortable and social, you can fit more people and chit chat,...

Re: Easton's Creek
Its definitely worth the trip, the bushwhacking is a bit wet but it will be an adventure. Not sure I worried too much about crown land vs private the time I went I gor a few very small brookies so I declared success. Was 5 years ago, was soaked and sore when I got out but had a great time searching ...

Re: Loading Sled DIY
That looks pretty sweet. My sled is pretty light but even so I found myself in hernia territory a few times this year so my solution is to take the stuff out of my sled, lift sled into the truck, and put the stuff back one at a time. Works for me but I know eventually I'll leave something behind and...

Perch in the Sun
Was out yesterday.. cold but sunny and finally could drive the sxs out, slush was ok... Fancy new hut my fellow fishermen had. Didn't use my normal 3 person frabil, this one hold 6 people so super comfy. https://images2.imgbox.com/c0/3c/de1FWt1g_o.jpg Transport onto 20+ inches and minimal slush issu...

Re: Taiga Dog Adventures
Nice looking machine. How does it do in slush ? Our SxS were defeated after the big snow and unable to go on the ice, got stuck hard so we slogged it old-school. Hope to get out to see when you have it at Shirleys, bet there will be lots of interest (don't think you'll get much fishing in, giving de...
