Nice job Slayingm,
Have you heard of any Whitefish being caught out there so far this year? I tried that area a few weeks back and was inundated with smaller Perch.
I did take some huge rips off a windlass set 4 feet off bottom though...

You were lucky my friend.
Great Lakes water and/or ice is dangerous if you are venturing into the unknown, especially with this insane weather. Before you head out get informed from multiple sources and trust your instincts.
Glad to hear you weren't a statistic.

:) Scuro, if you have the time next summer, we should get out off Port Burwell. Burwell is one of those places where featureless flats rule and the Walleye are both suspended and hugging bottom. The fish are generally long and not too heavy (5-7lbs), but it's the only place I know where you can catc...

:) You're right Justin. Big Bait = Big Pike Those little shiners might only ever entice a snot rocket, but put a decent sucker minnow on and "pa-zing" start considering the need for a 10" auger. A classic case of go big or go home. ps. I also lift the bait 4-6 feet off bottom. ...

:) The beautiful thing about Ottawa CharlieD is that you can get everywhere very quickly. From where you're staying, you can get to Petrie in 20-30 mins. tops. Like the guys say, there's always someone out on the ice. I'd start at Crappie bay and then mosey over to Walleye Bay if the bite gets slow....

I've got a spot in mind for the 28th for some fellowship. I'll poll the electorate on the 28th. to find out a preference.
If we're lucky the trip won't get cancelled because of a muddy river.

:) For what it's worth, the truck was indeed on the ice... On Jan 22, 2005 when I took the photo off Gilford Ont. I doubt anyone is brave enough to put a vehicle on the ice yet this season. Pickerel Boy Senior... I sent you a message. Good luck. I don't know what's going on with the Pike but ...

:) Well I was indeed fortunate enough to have some time off before the big Christmas rush and what better way to spend it, than to get out on the ice. In these parts it's not often that the ice is safe prior to Christmas so we decided to make the most of it. On Saturday I hooked up with Salmo...
