Re: From noob to pro!

I love the pics of kids with their first fish. Very special - you should have a couple of them frame for him! Too special to let them sit on a hard drive somewhere!

Re: hit a deer

WRT what to do with the meat... I've heard that making sausage out of blending the venison with pork is the way to go. I'm not a hunter, so I've never done this myself, but I heard the fat in the pork helps offset the lean game meat of the deer.

Re: Canoeing into new and SPECK-tacular waters = HUGE payoff

Best trout report I've seen in a long time! Makes slogging a canoe through the bush on your head worth it!

Re: Will a 1.5 lbs anchor be suitable for canoe?

I have another suggestion for you. I use a small drift sock that I bought at LeBarons, and it does the trick for me. I light to now waves it keeps me relatively still, and in heavier wind it allows me to drift very slowly. It's a lot lighter than an anchor, works with any depth and bottom type, and ...

Re: Back Lake Brookies and Back, Back, Back Lake, Lakers!!!

Hmmm... I wonder how I'm going to convince the wife and kids I need a kitchen pass to get out for some back lake brookies.

Re: Erie Perch

Nice cooler of perch! I'm originally from the Windsor area, and every time I go home to visit my brother he threatens to take me and the kids out to get perch. Unfortunately, it always seems to be too windy, or the perch aren't biting or something. Personally, I just don't think he knows where they ...

Re: Where to find Bowfin in Ottawa

I've caught them in a hoop net set in the Detroit River before :geek: It was a really big specimen, with interesting colouring. The belly was lime green. The net set was in a marshy inner bay of Peche Island. I suspect if you fish the channels of marshes and marshy bays of the Ottawa you may happen ...

Re: QC Resident Fishing Permit Just Went Up By Almost 50%

Ya, the cost to fish is going to make me avoid buying a case or two of BEER!!! (or not). The long and short of it is, more money is put into managing our fisheries than is collected by licenses, so quit whining about the government not putting scarce resources into YOUR favourite past time. (BTW, lo...

Re: Carleton Place spring fishing

Absolutely you should have a Fish-Hawk taste test night! I'm sure you have a great focus group of beer lovers at your disposal. :D Maybe you could get Gord and the Stittsvillains to headline the evening! I myself tend to prefer quality over quantity, and love the microbrews that have come out of Ont...

Algonquin Park Trout Trip

Hi guys - I'm thinking of heading to Algonquin Park for a weekend this spring to try for trout. I've done quite a bit of paddling there, but not much fishing, and when I did fish, i didn't have any luck. Does anyone have any suggestions for lakes or regions to try? I'm not looking for anyone's honey...

Re: Transporting a canoe

I know this is an old post, but I suspect there are some folks thinking about this same issue at this time of year. I too use the foam blocks on my minivan and my little civic. Low tech, cheap, and pretty reliable. I've driven all over the province with my canoe and, knock on wood, haven't lost it y...

Re: What is your opinion?

You asked for my opinion, and I'm not usually shy to give it. There must be a better, more conservation-minded format for a club to make money. Maybe other clubs have had some success with this. WRT a bunch of uneducated buffoons going out on the same boat, twice a day to get their limit and fill th...

Re: shirley's bay last trip!!!

I was out there this afternoon, and the ice was still over 2 feet thick where we were. And there wasn't any slop on the top... frozen solid. Still didn't help our luck, as we only got one small perch, but it was good to spend some time on the ice.
