Re: Ticks
I took Smitty's advice last year and sprayed my dog and haven't had a problem since. Also sprayed my waders, fishing vest and hiking clothes. I've talked to surveyors who said that the most infested area they have ever seen is in the greenbelt off of terry fox about a km west of march. I've seen lot...

Re: crappie on the fly
Very nice! I find fly fishing better suited for crappie fishing as the weightless flies naturally suspend. Shminnow and ice-dub wooly buggers are both great. Best tip for crappie fishing is use 2-3 flies at a time if you're comfortable casting them. I also use larger hooks than most to try and keep ...

Bowfishing For Carp
Hi all,
Does anyone here bowfish for carp? Any recommendations for bows to get? Looks like a blast!

Re: Brown Trout
Yep, no browns in the Park and no overly productive brown trout fishing near Ottawa unless you hit it after the stock which isn't much fun IMO. Check out upstate NY's stocking list, they put stock many of the rivers. Good fishing close to malone and Lake placid and north of watertown.

Good shooting RJ. I've heard Wolfe Lake near Westport and Otter Lake have some big ling. Their fillets are super firm and are great in San Francisco Style "Cioppino" chowder.

Re: Fishing in Quebec
Yeah I'm not sure I'm getting the dead bait thing either, other than that the mortality rate would be higher than using artificial in some instances, although the same can be said for live worms. It's funny how Quebec regulations are in a way strict and progressive yet still archaic in other instanc...

Naude's Point Lower Rideau
Hi all,
I was just wondering if it is safe to drive from the Yacht Club to Naude's Point yet, or better yet if there is somewhere easier to access it from.
Thanks,
Lenny

Re: Some Southern Exposure...
Great shots RJ!! That snook is a beauty. That 'pompano' is actually a jack crevalle. Definitely one of the hardest fighting fish I've ever caught. Caught some dandies on poppers in Costa Rica.

Re: Somewhere Between Constance and Shirleys Hut Locations
There are some huts on Constance Lake. Only problem is unless you run into a school of crappie there is virtually no night bite and you seem to enjoy catching ling. Baskins beach is another spot worth having a look at, not sure if there are any huts there. Only other spot I can think of that's about...

Re: Maker a Laker
Nice fish! One recommendation is to not grab them by the gills and hold them vertically if they're being released. It's been shown to significantly raise the mortality rate.

Re: Overnight Ice Shacks
Ended up going to Lake Nipissing, we caught 42 walleye and 3 perch over a 3 day span. None of the walleye were over 18 inches but some in the 17.5 range. I think if I was to choose anywhere I'd check out Lake Temagami next time. Zippyfx- What an idiot that guy is. Perfect example of karma biting him...

Re: early reservations at algonquin park: where to fish?
Fork Lake off of hwy 60 apparently has great splake fishing. Otherwise for brookies your best would be to go up to the brent access. Best part about going to Brent compared to 60 corridor is the trout are wild and there is more wildlife and significantly less people.

Re: Shirley's Bay Fish?
I've caught 8 walleye in the last two nights. Bite has been around 430-5. Best to get there around 330 and leave at 530 imo. I fondness action is best this time of year. All have been 12-18 inches.

Splake_Hunter you're a fool! The ice isn't safe yet and certainly won't be by the time the weekend comes. Everybody should stay home and refrain from fishing . Just kidding of course, nice fish!

I can't wait! Going to put the shack out at Shirley's Bay and I'm looking forward to fishing the Calabogie Hills and Golden Lake.
