Re: Shirley's Bay 2025 Ice season
Nice! Happy to hear there are some big ones around. I'll probably be out friday and sunday evening this weekend. I was out monday near brittania and still tons of ice but like you said very wet and slushy.

Re: Shirley's Bay 2025 Ice season
Well it was quite "different" year so to speak..... Best ice conditions that I can recall for many years and we didn't get allot of fishing in. The season started with early, thick, clear great ice. Couldn't move the hut around (we use a sled to pull it) as there was no snow. Couldn't get...

Re: Shirley's Bay 2025 Ice season
How's everyones season been? Will try to make it out next week after work if weather is nice. Definitely the best part about daylight savings time can get out for prime time and have more days to choose from. Usually better fishing in March than February too.

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season
Nice! Glad to hear you had a good finale out there! Should be some good fishing there next year, I'm sure it's never seen so little fishing pressure out there. Fewest shacks I've ever seen.

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season
Ended up going out sunday 445-630pm. Was only me and one other person. Didn't end up going as far as I would have liked. 6 perch (one keeper) and 2 walleye 11 and 13 inches. Not a bad outing and I'm looking forward to fish tacos tonight. Was about 10 inches of ice where I was but it wasn't in the be...

Going to go out tomorrow. Will bring my skates and look to get out near the mouth of the bay.

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season
Agreed thanks Smitty that was a good read. Going to make the trek out far this weekend if it isn't too cold. Bites came between 520-530 for me. I rarely stay out late enough for ling as I don't have a shack and it sure gets cold out there once the sun sets!

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season
Nice those are great numbers! Now that the ice is a little more solid and slush is frozen I plan on making the trek out farther this weekend.

Re: Shirley's Bay 2024 Ice season
I was also out yesterday from 4pm-545, out to the left of the second farthest shack out. One group was very far out. One 14 inch walleye on the deadstick with a minnow and lost another on dinner bell and minnow head. About 6 inches of top water so bring rubber boots if you go. Not as many shacks out...

Re: Walleye / Crotch Lake / Perth area
Probably the best walleye lake in the Perth area is Mississippi Lake. But as it's been said, can't beat the Ottawa for numbers or the St. Lawrence for size. St. Lawrence opens a week earlier but is busy opening weekend.

Re: Diable river
It is mostly dependant on stocking, not sure how many they are putting in this year. Usually stocked with browns. Not many hold over. River is fast and wading is difficult. Not the best fishing but its a pretty river. Haven't fished it in years.

Re: Shirleys Bay reports
Yep, I got checked by the MNR quite a ways from my house Saturday and wasn't given any trouble. There are travel 'recommendations' but no 'restrictions' so as long as you're obeying the rules (less than a group of 5 outdoors) there is nothing they can do.

Re: Shirleys Bay reports
In 4 outings this year I have caught 1 small burbot, 11 sauger/walleye and 2 small perch. Not breaking any records but it's a quick drive and I usually get on the ice at 4pm and leave around 530-6. One interesting thing I've noticed is some nights they have been keyed in on live minnows on my set li...

Re: Ice Fishing Perth Area
Not sure if we're talking about the same black lake, no river goes through it. If you ever want to go fishing there this winter hit me up.
