Re: Small Lakes Near Pembroke/Petawawa
No access to it! Too many people left junk on the ice and on shore so access to Maves and Supple has been shut down.

Re: DUMOINE LAKE - 10 MILE LODGE
Just my opinion, but that would be the trip from hell dragging a boat trailer in. It will be very slow and tedious to say the least and I wouldn't dream of attempting it without bringing a set of bearings and of course a spare. Me personally, I would spare the wear and tear on my boat and trailer an...

Re: Sand Lake near Elgin
Grew up in the area and still visit from time to time to see friends. Where abouts on the lake is your friends cottage? The lake is predominantly a largemouth lake but also has a good smallmouth population. Like most of the Rideau lakes in the area, pike, perch and crappie are present as well. No sp...

Re: Ice Fishing - Augers
I will play the devil's advocate here....After 25+ yrs of power auger use, including Jiffy, Strike Master and the latest being a Husqvarna, I am going back to hand augers! I fish mainly backwoods lakes all winter and I am tired of transporting cumbersome gas augers as well as fuel, all over hell's h...

There are two Sand Lakes. One is just outside Westport, below Wolfe lake and at one time, had a healthy population of eyes. That may still be the case, but I have had no first hand knowledge for several yrs. The second Sand Lake is part of the Rideau system but is two locks down from Newboro (Chaffe...

May be just me, but I think that you will be lucky to have open water by next wknd. Drove past Muskrat today and it is still fairly tight to shore. Also have been riding 4 wheelers in the Calabogie/Mountain Chute area within the last couple weeks and the water there seems to be in the same condition...

I have a Frabill shack and had a hard time getting a Frabill towbar and cover for mine. I put a Fish Trap drawbar on mine. It fit perfectly and after seeing a Frabill one, I felt it was better quality as well...a little more substantial. My shack was an older model (Ice Cruiser 200) and I could only...

Two 12v batteries wired in series will last longer than a single 24v battery. When wired in series the amp/hr rating is added together for one larger rating. RVers like myself take advantage of this principle all the time by using two 6v batteries wired in series to run all the 12v appliances. For a...

Hi McQ, I have really been enloying your daily updates. I am a big fan of camplife in the north and in particular I enjoy the odd solo trip as well...mind you I wouldn't want to live alone for an extended period! Don't want to insult anyone's intelligence, but rather, offer some advice about your wa...

I am thinking that it has been closed for close to twenty yrs. I am originally from the Portland area, and remember being quite upset when they closed it along with alot of other locals...however there was no doubt that the trout would be in trouble if nothing was done. The population has bounced ba...
