For the love of god TIP the delivery guy!
Ok I am venting now, I deliver for a living and on days like this there are always lots. What I am venting about is, obviously if you are home because of the weather it is going to take some time to get your order to you! I am tired of getting to someones house and them saying" Did you get lost? or its about time" Or my favorite, " How are the roads" I started at 11am and only just now stopped and that is because my boss finally said no more deliveries for a couple of hours. The real kick in the crotch are the people who dont tip, delivery guys earn the majority of there money from the generosity of the individual they are delivering to. Many people think we are getting a nice wage but we are not, we are getting a flat rate which is squat, I pay for my own gas which is not reimbursed to me, I pay for my vehicle and any repairs, I pay for insurance. All of these are major expenses that I have to pay for and am not reimbursed for. People also think we get the delivery charge, we dont, it goes directly to the store and this is put towards what the store pays us.
So what I am trying to say is , tip the delivery guy a couple of bucks, afterall we are bringing you your lunch or dinner or whatever so you dont have to leave your homes especially in weather like this. Most people are good about it but there are the few that are just ignorant and actually dont get that the roads are crap or they think they are the only ones to order and we should be there right away ahead of every other order.
Sorry for the rant but today is very frustrating and I dont want to go back out for nothing!

Where's my food???? I have been waiting hours already..It's only a bit of snow....What do you mean the tip is not included in the delivery charge??? You want me to pay more??? Any of these helping you Don?? Guys I agree, give Don a tip and not the one about not eating yellow snow
I did this for a while when I was younger and it is not a fun job on days like this...If I could Don I would throw a nickle your way

Badger my tip for the day, is (especially today) "Look both ways before you cross the street" Joking
Don what is the going % for a delivery tip?? I usually give the same as a tip at a restaurant 15% + depending if they are coming from far (I live in the sticks) extra for gas.
You don't want to pee pee off a Badger. I think of Don everytime I see the commercial of that guy in a car with a family of badgers to show how quiet the car is.

Hey Dan...you're generous with the tip at 15% for delivery.....Sorry Don, but most people like me think that you are paid a minimal wage by the establishment you are employed by....I know for sure that if I order a pizza from Happy Times in Carp, they add an extra $2 to the total bill for delivery and I'll throw in a toonie if I get the pizza within the time that was quoted...
I normally tip the local delivery guy $2....it's a one shot deal as opposed to a waitress that is continually serving you at a restaurant where i will tip up to 20% depending on the service...

Steve most places charge a delivery charge but it does not go to the driver, this is the problem and people dont bother tipping. If this happens to me and I get that person again on another date and I have more than one delivery, do you think I will go to that person first? NO! I will do the others first and I will not rush. The place I work pays me a flat rate but that is because I have been there 6 years and have a good relationship with my current boss but all the other stores only pay their drivers per delivery so if there are no deliveries they dont get anything( highly illegal by the way) I know my rights and this is why they dont do that to me. They get away with it at other places becaue most guys dont know their rights or they are immigrants or on welfare or have jobs already. This is the problem with working for a corperate store. Individual places can pay whatever they want and they will not be able to hire a guy if they pay only per delivery.
Anyway, try the job and you will soon get tired of driving around all day bringing people orders and getting nothing in return. We delivery guys are the scum of the earth!
By the way I drove over 180kms today, got stuck 5 times and had to dig myself out , not one person stopped to help me out or just watched me out of their windows, I went through almost half a tank of gas. I did have several very generous people though. I started work at 10:30am and just got home, I had one 20 minute rest where my boss stopped taking deliveries. Anyway I am finally home and hungry!
Bottom line show a little generosity and it is not forgotten and appreciated.
Dan by the way, anything under 2 bucks SUCKS!

At least Don if you would've deliver to Steve's last, you could've taken a couple of slices off of his pizza b4 you gave it to him, cause we all know that he's a small TIPER.TroutnMuskieHunter wrote:Don...did you order a pizza???Badger Shark wrote: Anyway I am finally home and hungry!

If he was my last delivery I would just head out onto the ice if it was winter or into his boat in the summer and go fishing.
Steve I believe due to you being rural the driver would probably get something from the pizza palce he works at. If I had to drive from Carp to your place I would hope to get a decent tip especially if the weather was bad. We dont give a guarenteed time due to the fact there are so many different things that can happen. Most of the time a pizza is late it is not the fault of the driver. When it is really busy in the store we can only go as fast as the pizza comes out, remember there are also take out orders to make. Also if there is only one driver on and it gets extremely busy there is nothing we can do, I am not going to drive like a mad man to get somewhere for a couple of bucks. During the day I am the only driver, Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday at night there are only 2 of us, Thursday 3 and Friday 4, Sat back to 3. I am there 6 days a week Mon. - Sat. I am tied to this place for over 60hrs per week and my wife works a full time job in Vanier then comes to manage here 3 nights a week and Sat during the day.
I HATE PIZZA! OK not really but I dont eat it very often and if I do I go to Gabriels!
