Disturbing Report Nov 5th Wendover

Post by Geos »

Ill get to the disturbing in a minute

Spend the day with "dad" pickreal fishing this awesome nov day and will do it again tomorrow.

1 smallie and one pickreal keeper.

Now as we where sitting with the other cluster of boats, these 2 old quebers hauled in a 38-39 muskie then dropped it in the bottom of the boat, a empty can was in the way so it went over board, but every pickreal the caught they kept and we seen atleast 30, easy to do when the 2 guys had 4 rods in the water.

If i knew someone would do something I would have made a call but I dont know the QC regs otr if the MNR even exsits around here.

Hard to start something when im one of the smallest boats on the water.
Boy did they burn my arse.

Also they catch a nice ski with out trying and im busting a nut to get one, thats salt on the wounds

I have a pic of there boat and number if there is/was something I could have done please let me know.

Also the sign in wendover was you can only keep a muskie over 54" but the ont reg says 36" whats up with that?

There is a house that sells minnows in wendover ill get the phone # tomorrow for those that might want it.

Legal limit on the O is 54 inches....period. Other water bodies have differing limits.......48, 44, 36.

Next time make the call, with their registration #'s.

Dude you gotta make the call. Even if you do not think anything will be done. Yes they are understaffed, yes they likely would not respond, but this is how it works: Environment Minister goes to his boss, I hear alot of abuses are taking place out there, people are complaining we don't do enough and don't have enough staff. His boss says, are you nuts? You have 5 guys for that area and in the last year we have had 10 complaints, you're telling me 5 guys can't handle 10 complaints? in fact due to an obvious lack of an issue and high compliance rate, I'm cutting 2 of your guys cuz obviously they are not being utilized!!!

unless you call that is exactly the scenario and it will never, ever change!

I made the call

Post by Dustin »

Last fall I was fishing a stream in Toronto and saw people intentionally snagging salmon (in order to catch them, gut them for their row, and toss the carcass aside). I made the call (the call centre is in Ste. Saint Marie). They had received similar complaints, and like the previous post said, it's all about call volume (they will eventually send someone to check it out if problems persist, but don't expect an immediate response).

I also took the time to get a good pic, write the boat # down and have them show me the musky, and made the call when I got home.

Some discussion about how to handle such a case would be nice for new anglers.
A link to the mnr site, a number to call, stickers for reporting a poacher is what I was looking for here.

Before callin the MNR....I'd have asked them what they were doing different than you....

Poachers on the water are tough to decide what to do with....and making that call is the best thing you can do....

That is terrible Geos,

The @#$% are not sportsman. I wish the whole gaggle of boats would have pulled up to these guys and told them off and made it obvious that they'd be reporting them.

This may have made a difference.

Good for you for posting this.

Reminds me of a few years back, fishing opening day eyes on the O.
boat pulls up beside me and holds ur a 36" musky for me to admire...I said it was out of season, and should have been released...(it was dead by this time), and the guy argues telling me it was a pike! I saw him un-launching his boat, so I trolled by to get the license #, then called the MNR poaching line, leaving my number so they could call me back for a full report...and I never heard from them!
