Finally got out to hunt turkeys this morning. As soon as I was set up and the woods started to awake I heard multiple gobbles 100m in front of me. Good start to a beautiful morning! I let out a few yelps on the box and got immediate replies, I then switched to my slate dish for some soft clucks and purrs. Then the fog rolled in, I could barely see my decoys 20m away. I was still getting the odd gobble but everything seemed distant until three jakes appeared out of the fog like ghosts floating across the field. They then turned and headed right for my jake decoy. Boom, the leader goes down. Perfect morning!

Nice Joel!
Must have been a thrill to see all three come out like that.

Nice one Joel and good hunt! I'm really enjoying these turkey hunts being shared.
Re: Foggy morning ghosts.
Thanks for sharing Joel. Tastey Jake there.
Will you hold off for a Tom now or take another Jake if the opportunity arises?

MEAT - Grind it, stuff it, smoke it.

I would probably wait for a tom unless I go out and try to take one with my bow.fatluke wrote:Thanks for sharing Joel. Tastey Jake there.

Nice bird man. Good eats right there!
I got 99 problems but a fish ain't one...
Re: Foggy morning ghosts.
Congrats on a nice Tom. Now did them other jakes jump on your downed bird as they sure do like to do that for some reason.
Re: Foggy morning ghosts.
Thanks guys! Those jakes were pretty upset and confused running around all over the place but I stood up and scared them off before they had a chance to attack my bird.CBB wrote:Congrats on a nice Tom. Congrats!
Pretty sure I hunted the same morning and that fog was thick! I was walking back to the truck through an open field and busted some hens that were also in the field probably only 40 yards away before we saw each other. Was a neat experience for sure.
